SEA ISLE CITY-- Mayor Leonard Desiderio signed an executive order at 8 p.m., Thur., Jan 6 appointing the city's Police Chief Thomas D'Intino, to oversee the fire department administratively while an internal investigation is conducted into allegations made by two senior members, city Solicitor Paul Baldini said.
Baldini said there has been infighting among members and rumors that some members would refuse to respond to calls. Baldini said the city has verified with active members of the all-volunteer company that they will respond when called.
Baldini said the police chief will not take command on fire scenes, and the company's current command structure will remain.
Under the executive order, D'lntino is permitted to establish any new rules he deems necessary in the company's bylaws which have not been updated since 1896.
After the investigation and review of bylaws, the mayor will turn oversight of the department back to the fire chief and its chain of command.

The fact that this is in the paper for the entire community to read and people names are being thrown around with out being able to defend their name and reputations is a disgrace and should be a private matter between the city and the fire department and not have a families name dragged through the mud when the entire story has not been told from all sides of the table. This is a case of defamation of character and is despicable that the city aloud this to come to a public forum before the *INTERNAL* investigation has been completed...If this were a criminal investigation you would not be giving out information during an ongoing investigation yet you are making this public before this investigation is resolved. Said names should not have been mentioned if this was an *INTERNAL* investigation. I would say this is more like a public execution!
