Tuesday, June 11 – Freeholders’ Meetings
The Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders will meet on Tuesday, June 11 at the County Administration Building. The Caucus Meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. The public are welcome.
Thursday, June 13, 2013 – Crest Haven’s “Senior” Prom
Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will hold its eighth annual “Senior” Prom on Thursday, June 13, 2013. This year, the theme will be “The Greatest Generation”. The formal gala will begin at 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Center with photos of Crest Haven’s Greatest Generation Residents! A formal dinner will follow served by the Crest Haven kitchen staff and staff volunteers who will also be decked out for the special occasion. After dinner, around 6 p.m., one of the resident’s favorite singers, Keith Hickman, will entertain with his magical music.

Community Blood Drive
Cape May County Government is hosting a community blood drive on Friday, June 14th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crest Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 12 Moore Road in the Crest Haven Complex (Exit 11 off the Garden State Parkway). The blood drive is open to all employees, family members, friends and the public. Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments are preferred. Twice a year the county holds a blood drive for employees, their families and friends and encourages members of the public to donate blood as well. All are encouraged to participate. County and Red Cross Offer Shelter Fundamentals Training Class
The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management in conjunction with the American Red Cross is sponsoring a shelter fundamentals training class on June 15. The class is free but registration is required. The class will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Seaville Fire and Rescue Hall, 36 Route 50, Seaville, NJ 08230 To attend this free training session, register at the American Red Cross Website https://classes.redcross.org/Saba/Web/Main and select the box for New Users. Monday, June 17 - “WE CHECK FOR 21”
The “We Check For 21” Program officially starts in Cape May County on Monday, June 17, 2013. The event will take place at the Wildwoods Convention Center located at 4501 Boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey. Three training sessions on fraudulent identification documents such as New Jersey and out of state licenses and ID Chief Documents will be held at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. for employees of liquor license establishments in Cape May County.
Presentations will be made by the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission and the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, among others. Each session will run approximately an hour and a half.

Meet Cape May County’s Amateur Radio Operators
The Amateur Radio Community of Cape May County is a communications back-up for emergencies in the County. The radios are portable and can be used at any location. In Cape May County there are approximately fifty volunteers in the HAM Radio Community that are available to help when emergencies occurr.
On June 22 and June 23, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with Cape May County’s ham radio operators and see for themselves what Amateur Radio Service is about. Showing the newest digital and satellite capabilities, voice communications and even historical Morse code, hams from across the United States will be holding public demonstrations of emergency communications abilities. This annual “Field Day” is the climax of the week long “Amateur Radio Week” sponsored by the ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio.
In Cape May County, the event will be held at the 4-H Fair Grounds located at 355 Court House-South Dennis Road from 1 p.m. on June 22 until 1 p.m. on June 23rd. The event is open to the public and all are welcome to come and see what Ham Radio is all about. More than 35,000 amateur radio operators across the country participated in last year’s event. Choose Your Cover 2013 Event
The Department of Health will be conducting two Sun Safety and free Skin Cancer Screening events this summer. Taking additional steps to promote sun safety and the early detection of skin cancer, Choose Your Cover, a free statewide skin cancer screening, awareness and educational initiative, will once again take to the beaches this summer with their message of prevention.
• Saturday, June 22 at the Music Pier, 825 on the Boardwalk in Ocean City from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dr. Coyle Connolly, Board Certified Dermatologist and members of his staff will be available to the public, on a first come first serve basis offering free skin cancer screenings. Additionally, participants will receive a wealth of vital information about sun smart precautions to protect their skin.

Vaccines Available for Adults in Cape May County
The Cape May County Department of Health has a variety of vaccines available for adults in Cape May County. The specific vaccines you need as an adult are determined by factors such as your age, lifestyle, risk conditions, locations of travel and previous vaccines. Talk to your doctor or nurse about what is recommended for you,” advises Health Officer Kevin Thomas. The Health Department has most adult vaccines available for free or at low-cost. Call 465-1200 to ask about what vaccines you may need and to schedule an appointment.
Adult vaccines are currently available to prevent: Chickenpox, Hepatitis A: Hepatitis B, HPV, Pertussis, Meningitis, Pneumonia and Shingles.

Guide to Accessing Cape May County’s Beaches and Surf Chairs for People with Disabilities is available on-line
The 2013 edition of A Guide to Accessing Cape May County’s Beaches and Surf Chairs for People with Disabilities is now available on the Cape May County Website, capemaycountygov.net, through the County Department of Tourism and on the website of the NJ Department of Human Services/Division of Disability Services. This brochure provides detailed information regarding the accessibility of beaches located in Avalon, Cape May City, Cape May Point, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor, Strathmere in Upper Township and the Wildwoods. Also, it highlights the investment these municipalities have made in surf chairs (Ocean City alone has 54); those beach accessible wheelchairs with large, balloon-type wheels that don’t get stuck in the sand.
The 2013 electronic version of the Guide is now available from the homepage of capemaycountygov.net. Print copies of the Guide are being distributed throughout Cape May County and statewide, through the efforts of the Cape May County Department of Tourism, the New Jersey Division of Disability Services and the New Jersey Association of County Disability Services.

MUSEUM TO PARTICIPATE IN BLUE STAR MUSEUMS
The Cape May County Museum announced the launch of Blue Stars Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and a record-breaking 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2013. The program provides families an opportunity to enjoy the nation’s cultural heritage and learn more about their new communities after completing a military move.
In conjunction with this program, the Cape May County Museum will feature a special exhibit of uniforms from its military collection, beginning with a uniform from the Spanish American War up to the current war in Afghanistan.
