COURT HOUSE — The township and its business administrator, Mark Mallett, came to an agreement on terms of a one-year contract that includes a $5,000 raise over his previous salary.

The contract was unanimously approved by the three-member Township Committee during its Feb. 6 meeting.

Mallett will be paid an annual salary of $99,860. The contract runs from Feb. 1, 2012 through Jan. 31, 2013. The contract includes “full health insurance benefits, prescription, dental, eyeglass and similar benefits in the same manner as provided to all other Middle management employees.” The township will make “any and all contributions required on base pay by the State of New Jersey as it applies to (Mallett’s) membership under the DCRP program.”

Included in the contract is a severance package in the event Mallet is terminated.

Upon immediate termination Mallet will receive severance pay in the amount of 22 weeks’ salary, paid over the course of 22 weeks. The township may also opt to terminate Mallet and set the date of termination effective 90 days after a vote to terminate. Severance in that case will equal 13 weeks’ salary.

“There shall be no automatic renewal of the Agreement,” said the contract. “Renewal shall only be effective by formal approval of a majority of the Governing Body.”

The resolution to accept Mallett’s contract was not on the published agenda. Instead, it was added on at the end of the list presented to Committee for its approval.

When asked by a member of the audience why the resolution was not on the printed agenda, Tim Donohue replied the contract “went down to the wire today.”

He's like they dummy they strap in for the collision tests. After they clear all the hurdles, they'll put in the real guy.

I was the "member of the audience " who questioned the committee .So much for 'open and transparent' government. Is this raise part of the "countdown to zero" promised by the intrepid Timbo ? Maybe it's part of the 'leaner and cleaner' babble . I can't wait to see what they give the republican who gets the job . Maybe they can lure Mike Voll back here . I need more barf bags .

Interesting that it is a one year contract with a 22 week payout at end. If township terminates contract he gets 90 days paid(13 weeks) plus 13 weeks. Smells like a payoff until the repubicans can stash one of theirs in the position. Mallet not in an enviable position at this point-dont blame him for getting what his id in what looks like a lame duck status-certainly no vote of confidence .

Hard to do this job with all the political posturing going on.

Why is he getting a 5K raise in this bad economy? He should share the sacrifice that too many others are forced to bear. Bad move. The cost of govt will never shrink with these guaranteed annual raises based on nothing but keeping up with the Jonses.
