AVALON - The Avalon Department of Recreation has unveiled a new lineup of children’s activities for the summer of 2012 that now includes beach days, exercise days, arts and crafts, and special nights of entertainment at Veterans Plaza.
“The Borough of Avalon is all about family fun throughout the summer and we are very pleased to offer an expanded selection of children’s activities”, said Brian Juzaitis, Supervisor of the Avalon Department of Recreation. “We feel these exciting, educational, and fun activities will truly compliment the summer experience in Avalon this year and beyond”.
The Avalon Department of Recreation will offer “Monday Beach Days” starting on June 25, 2012. Starting at 10:00 a.m., children will meet at the 30th Street Beach Pavilion for many fun recreational activities on the Avalon beachfront. The department will also host free children’s exercise classes every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., starting on June 27. The one hour class will provide a fun interactive way for children up to 12 years of age to get in shape and stay in shape during their summer vacation. Starting Fri., June 29, the department will offer free arts and crafts for children up to 12 years of age, starting at 10:00 a.m.. Art projects and activities will be taught at Avalon Community Hall, and children will be assigned to age brackets that match their skill levels.
Avalon will host a brand new “Kids Night” every Wednesday night at Avalon Veterans Plaza, starting June 27. Beginning at 6:30pm, various entertainment and activities for young children will take place at the plaza. The new “Kids Night” series begins with juggler Al Grout. Other featured entertainment includes Haldini Magic, Franklin Institute presents “Hot and Cold”, “Kids in Motion”, and the Magic of Joe Fisher. These events are free and open to the public.
The Avalon Department of Recreation will also continue to offer free field sports activities on Avalon’s public recreational fields every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. The 2012 lineup includes soccer Monday and Fridays at 10:00 a.m. at the 9th Street field; Baseball Mondays and Fridays at 11:00 a.m. at the 9th Street field; and basketball Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. at the 8th Street courts.
