WILDWOOD — A flash fire in a two-story home in the 5000 block of Atlantic Avenue was quickly extinguished Thursday, Dec. 2 around 3:30 p.m. Two residents were home at the time but neither was seriously injured, according to Wildwood Fire Chief Conrad Johnson. A dog also made it safely out of the home.

Johnson said a man was working in the boiler room in the rear of the home at 5006 Atlantic Ave. using aerosol spray foam to seal pipes when a nearby heater kicked on. The flame from the heater caught the aerosol, causing a flash fire. The man had minor burns and was treated at the scene, Johnson said.

Meanwhile, police helped a woman, believed to be sleeping on a couch, out the front door as firefighters entered the home. She was also treated on the scene.

The fire was contained to the rear room where the man was working. Johnson said crews stopped it from extending to the second floor. Damage to the home was not extensive, he said. There was minor damage to the wall and some sheet rock was removed. Smoke was contained to the first floor and ventilated on the scene.

City paid and volunteer firefighters were assisted by the Rapid Intervention Team from Rio Grande Fire Company.
