AVALON - An installation ceremony was held on June 20, 2013 at the Golden Inn in Avalon NJ for incoming officers of the Avalon Lions Club and its non-profit foundation. Jim Collins was elected president for the 2013-2014 year. Collins has been an active member of the Avalon Lions for the last 6 years and was recently honored as Lion of the Year.
Since the club’s chartering in 2002, its members have worked on many projects and contributed 1000’s of hours volunteering throughout the community. The Avalon Lions with more than 102 members is the largest club in NJ Lions District 16C. District 16C is geographically most of South New Jersey. The Avalon Lions hold 43 events each year representing fund raising, community service and administrative areas. Regularly scheduled events include the Charity Golf Classic, 50/50 Cash Elimination Raffle, Pasta Dinner, Pancake Breakfast, White Cane and Book give-a way’s among others. Members also participate in Volunteer Day at the Diller Home, Kerr Charities events, and Bay Atlantic Concerts. Donations are focused on Cape May County and include local food pantries, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for abused and neglected children, The Coalition Against Rape And Abuse (CARA), Make a Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots and local eye banks. The Avalon Lions hope to donate over $60,000 to Cape May County charitable organizations this year.
The Avalon Lions members are made up of local men and women who meet monthly to identify the needs of the community and work together to fill those needs. All administrative costs for the club are paid by its members and all fundraising events are handled by the Avalon Lions Charities.
