STONE HARBOR — Enjoy wine tasting at the Wings ‘N Water Festival with several new wineries and a couple of returning favorites Saturday and Sunday Sept. 18 and 19, from noon to 4 p.m.

Participants must be 21 years old or older to taste the wines. Visitors can visit each winery for a $5 admission fee and festival ticket which includes a commemorative wine glass.

Hawk Haven Vineyard in Rio Grande is one of five of New Jersey’s finest wineries. Nestled between the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, sandy soils and cool ocean summer breezes create the perfect growing conditions for this family-owned vineyard.

Visitors can taste award winning wines including the 2007 American Kestral White and Cabernet Sauvignon – both of which took bronze at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in March.

Another returning vineyard is Balic Winery from Mays Landing, a family-owned winery started in 1966 by Savo Balic, a vine-grower from the Adriatic Sea. Current co-owner Bojan Boskovic, Savo’s nephew, has been working alongside his uncle since 1993.

Now in their 44th year, Balic Winery ranks as the third oldest winery in New Jersey and currently creates over 30 different wines. This popular “American Wine with a European Accent” winery will be bringing a wide variety of their wines for all visitors to taste and enjoy.

Wagonhouse Winery of Mickleton will return this year with owners Dan and Heather Brown. New this year to their winery is the Three Boys Brand of wine, named after their three sons Dallas, Dawson and Dower. The Browns, with the help of close family and friends, produce quality wines and have a great dedication to New Jersey agriculture.

Their wine is created by using fruit grown only in New Jersey and each bottle has the individual attention of the owners. From planting and nurturing the vines, to crushing and fermenting the fruit and finally bottling and labeling, Wagonhouse Wines are delicious and available for taste and purchase.

Coda Rossa Vineyard from Franklinville is new to this year's festival. Named for the red-tail hawks who live in their vineyard, Coda Rossa features a great display of award winning wines. Owners Kathy and Kenton have a passion for wine that goes far beyond the delicious flavors that exist within each bottle to the unique experience that takes place when the wine is shared with family and friends.

Sharrott Winery from Blue Anchor, a family-owned vineyard located in the beautiful pine forests of New Jersey, took five honors at the 2010 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition including a double gold medal for their 2008 Cabernet Franc. Owner Larry Sharrott believes that great wines start in the vineyard in collaboration with Mother Nature. Sharrott takes great care to use sustainable practices in his daily steps of winegrowing.
