Participants at last year’s Kids Can Expo enjoy the “Just 4 Fun Railroad Line.” The G-gauge model trains will be set up at the Nature Center of Cape May from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4.

CAPE MAY — Join the Nature Center of Cape May for holiday happenings on the harbor for all ages throughout the holiday season.

“Just 4 Fun Holiday Trains” will be on display from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, from noon to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Children and adults alike will enjoy these old fashioned G-gauge model trains as they chug along their tracks through towns and other colorful holiday scenery. Cameras on the train engines allow children to watch themselves on television as the trains pass through the train station.

The Just 4 Fun Railroad Line is the brainchild of Cape May residents Liz and Merrill Miller, who discovered the magic of model trains about 10 years ago. Now the couple, along with friends Joyce and Gilbert Ewing, delight in sharing the fun with others, especially children.

Participants of the nature center’s annual “Holiday Wreath and Garland Workshops” will be able to enjoy the train display while they create original, sweet-smelling decorations for their homes. The workshops will be held Tues., Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, Wed., Dec. 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., (special family night with one price for parent and child), and two times on Sat., Dec. 4, from10 a.m. to noon and again 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The workshops provide fresh evergreens of Douglas fir, spruce, pine, cedar and other natural materials, along with the expertise of a center naturalist. The process is easy to learn, and even beginners leave with impressive creations. All materials and supplies are provided, but participants are welcome to bring special decorations.

Pre-registration for this activity is a must, as the workshops sell out quickly. The fee is $20, reduced to $15 for New Jersey Audubon members.

On Sat., Dec. 11, the Kids Can Crew will celebrate with a “Holiday and Crafts Party,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get in the holiday spirit by creating holiday crafts and gifts and by making evergreen swags, ornaments and a hot chocolate mix that will knock your stockings off.

The party will end with a cozy holiday story and hot chocolate. Children will take home all crafts made that day. The fee for the “Kids Can Holiday Party” is $15, reduced to $10 for NJA members.

For more information or to register for any of these programs, contact the Nature Center of Cape May, located on Cape May Harbor at1600 Delaware Ave., in Cape May. Call 609-898-8848, or email nccm@njaudubon.org.
