ATLANTIC CITY -- The Coast Guard, along with state and local agencies, continue to respond Aug. 2 to a fishing boat, which ran aground Tuesday in Little Egg Inlet.

The Rough Seas, a 59-foot fishing boat, ran aground with one person aboard at about 3:45 p.m. July 31.

New Jersey State Police transferred the operator of the boat to awaiting EMTs on shore. A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, secured the fishing boat and deployed a boom around it and in the entrance to the inlet in an attempt to contain any pollution that may leak out.

The Coast Guard has established a field command post at the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve and is working closely with the New Jersey State Police, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Sea Tow International on cleanup operations.

A salvage plan has been approved by the Coast Guard, and salvage crews are staging equipment and personnel to begin salvage and cleanup operations.

No sheen was visible today during a helicopter overflight assessment of the boat and shoreline.

The Coast Guard is transmitting a broadcast notice to mariners alerting them of the situation.
