To The Editor: I have a 19-year-old daughter whose health is up and down lately. She had a baby at 16, and had to have her gall bladder out a few months after because of multiple gallstones. She’s lost weight after that and now a couple years later, that issue is back but this time her stomach is hurting and can’t gain any weight. When we had insurance through the state, I was able to take her to different doctors. Her doctor told her she needed a colonoscopy and/or an endoscope test done. Four days before the morning of her surgery, the state cancelled our insurance. So here we are trying to get these tests done with no money or insurance. I called so many clinics, doctors, insurance companies, e-mailed the governor and the president — no luck. Is there anyone out here that is willing to help my child get better? She has a beautiful 3-year-old daughter who needs her mommy. Please help us. I pray everyday and at night I cry a lot because no one can tell me how to help my daughter. If there’s anything your readers can do to help us I will forever be grateful. No one should be turned away regardless of whether you have money or good insurance. Never did I imagine that a person would have to apply to get help with a doctor or medical care. The hospital says I have to find a doctor to perform the tests on my daughter and they'll do the procedure. Just because some people can't afford Blue Cross and they have New Jersey Family Care doesn't mean they’re any less of a decent person. It’s always about money. What happened to helping people? This may be hard - try to move to a state whose healthcare WILL cover your daughter, or enroll her in ACC. As a college student she will be able to get their very reasonable healthcare plan. Be sure it is for full time credits. Evening classes are available. Personally, we are planning a move.
