To The Editor: For the taxpayers who did not attend Lower Township’s Jan. 4 council meeting, you missed the “Show of Shows.” It was politics at its finest. There were candidates nominated to fill two positions. One for a council seat, the other for a seat on the M.U.A. board. The nominee for the council seat was the former mayor who pushed through contracts which sold our township “down the river.” I’m sure you also know the rest of his “history.” The nominee for the seat on the M.U.A. board is a former councilman who stated publicly at a meeting, “To the victors belong the spoils.” We the residents and taxpayers of Lower Township are, in his eyes, “the spoils.” Another disturbing fact is the renewal of the solicitor’s position who just so happens to be the head of the county Republican Party. Doesn’t this sound like a conflict of interest? He is the solicitor of our township by day and leader of the county Republican Party by night. Why are we allowing the county leaders to pull strings in our township by shoving undesirable candidates down our throats? We want honest people who have the township’s best interests at heart and not candidates who are being paid back for favors and votes. Come out on Wed. Jan. 18 and voice your opinion and don’t allow our council meeting to became another “show of shows.” FRANK SARACCO Villas
