To The Editor: The Republicans just love to cite the (mis) accomplishments of Ronald Reagan. Let's look at some. Ronald Reagan raised taxes 11 times during his eight years in office. He left us with a deficit. Reagan with his saber rattling caused the death of 243 marines in Lebanon, before withdrawing. Reagan proclaimed he'd never trade arms for hostages ...how about Iran-Contra? Bill Clinton had to clean up after Reagan-Bush in the 1990s. Reagan overstayed his presidency and put our country at risk. In today's political world, so many times the facts are distorted. Terms like spin are used for outright lies. One-liners are used to cover up facts. And, of course, money is used in large doses to deceive the American people. Have things changed in time, of course not? Today we have candidates like Mitt Romney attempting to convince voters of his economic prowess. He'd have you believe his success in the private sector will transform our economy and be good for the country. When actually he plundered failing corporations, fired workers, and profited for him at other’s expense. To praise the current political process would be to say that the exposure is healthy. Whereas, All the candidates have been vetted enough for the public to have a good look. Do we see any superstars? Not in my view however, wait till the dollars kick in and the spin is allowed to function and deceive the voter. The process will transform the sinner to a saint. The process will begin to build something out of very little. It was Reagan who made Republican voters feel good about being selfish. Woe to the voter, get ready to be hoodwinked once again. At this time, perhaps someone can tell me what is a Reagan Republican? Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, McCain and the others so often state this. However, with the Republicans attacking one another, they are probably handing the election to Obama. Looks like Reagan’s 11th commandment has been violated. "Thou shalt not attack another Republican.” Woe to the Republicans. WILLIAM MURPHY Cape May

________________________________________________ Reagan brought th etop tax rate down to 28 from 70%. It spurred the largest economic growth in US history. And wouldn't a leftist like Murphy be worshipping Reagan for tax increases he cited?
