COURT HOUSE -- A jury will hear the initial statement to police from a man on trial for the DWI death of 20-year-old Court House native Craig Lozier.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, a judge ruled Tuesday, Feb. 9 that jurors will hear a statement Nicholas Golden gave to police in the hours after the July 21, 2008, crash that killed Lozier.

Middle Township police charged Golden after the fatal motor accident, which occurred at 2:24 p.m. that day on Route 47.

Lozier, who was traveling north on Route 47 on his motorcycle, and was unable to avoid the vehicle being driven by Nicholas Golden, 18 of Philadelphia. Golden and his passenger, Kyle Zalot,18, of Philadelphia had been traveling south on Route 47 when they attempted to pass vehicles. Golden and Zalot had been smoking marijuana, police said.

Lozier was pronounced dead at the scene.

Golden was charged with one count of death by auto, a first-degree crime. He was also charged with driving while intoxicated, and other motor vehicle charges.

Four hours after the accident, Golden spoke to a detective with the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office. He initially told investigators that Lozier entered his lane, but he later admitted he was in Lozier's lane, the Press stated.

Golden's next court date is scheduled for March 11, the Press said.
