"On the Way to Cape May" Singer Dies at 87

CAPE MAY — Al Alberts, the man who sang “On the Way to Cape May,” has passed away at the age of 87, according to a Web report from WFMZ-Channel 69 News.

Alberts was a popular television host on WPVI-Channel 6 in Philadelphia and lead singer of the “Four Aces.” His Saturday television show, “Al Alberts Showcase” ran for 32 years. The show was one of the longest running television shows in the country and was produced by his wife, Stella. The television show gave an opportunity to young talent to perform. The program created many major stars including Broadway star Andrea McCardle, Sister Sledge, The Kinleys, Teddy Pendergrass, and dozens more.

According to his Web site:www.alalberts.net, he was lead singer and the architect of the internationally famous Four Aces sound. The Four Aces has sold over one hundred million records internationally including such hits as: It's No Sin, Tell Me Why, Garden in the Rain, Mr. Sandman, Stranger in Paradise. Perfida, Heart and Soul and Heart of My Heart, including two Academy Award winning songs:Three Coins in the Fountain and Love is a Many Splendored Thing.

He was a former resident of Cape May and passed away in Port Charlotte, Florida. Alberts is survived by his wife and two sons.
