DENNISVILLE-- Christopher Anderson, 13, of Dennis Twp was struck while riding his bike out of the parking lot of the Citgo gas station on Monday, Oct 26.

Anderson was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center in stable condition by Belleplain Emergency Corps and Medic 9.

According to Kellie Anderson, her son was then transported to Atlanticare Regional Trauma Center in Atlantic City for further observation. Her son was later released from the regional trauma center with road rash and bruises.

The teen’s mom says the accident was not the pick-up driver's fault. Police have identified the driver as Thomas Papperman. According to troopers, Papperman was unable to avoid the collision with Anderson, and no charges are pending.

Anderson said she wishes to thank everyone who helped take care of her son, and she offers a special thanks to Tom DeCecco who stayed with her son till he was taken to the hospital. "I just thank God he is okay," she said.

here you go joe .next time mind your business if you have no clue what your talking about
39:4-14.1 Rights and Duties of Persons on Bicycles.
Every person riding a bicycle on a roadway is granted all the rights and subject to all of the duties of the motor vehicle driver.

39:4-14.2, 39:4-10.11 Operating Regulations.
Every person riding a bicycle on a roadway shall ride as near to the right roadside as practicable exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction. A bicyclist may move left under any of the following conditions: 1) To make a left turn from a left turn lane or pocket; 2) To avoid debris, drains, or other hazardous conditions on the right; 3) To pass a slower moving vehicle; 4) To occupy any available lane when traveling at the same speed as other traffic; 5) To travel no more than two abreast when traffic is not impeded, but otherwise ride in single file. Every person riding a bicycle shall ride in the same direction as vehicular traffic.

In New Jersey, the law states a bicyclist must obey all state and local automobile driving laws. A parent may be held responsible for the child’s violation of any traffic law .here I made it easy for you joe by posting link. http://www.state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/bike/regulations.shtm

I wish the boy a speedy recovery and hope he is not traumatized by this accident and all that comes of it.

Why must we attempt to assign blame? Can we simply agree to wish the young man a speedy recovery?

rummrunner2: And just which law gives cyclists the right of way over motorized vehicles? You'd better check your reference before mumbling about something you obviously know nothing about.

i agree with you kate to an extent. But how do you know the child was not wearing a helmet? Were you there? This child happens to live not even 2 mins from the citgo and has rode his bike to that store numerous times. So if he chooses to go over to that store, would you rather him walk across 47 to the store. Yes, people on bikes should pay attention. but people in their cars need to pay attention as well.

Parents must teach their children to wear helmets. Drivers must be careful, but children should not be riding bikes in the dark. Children on bikes should not be riding on 47 and they need to pay attention as well.
I hope the boy and the driver are okay. I heard the boy was sent home from the hospital, Thank God for that!

plus nobody pays attention to driving any more.

i think it is very unsafe for bicyclists to be on the open road for exactly this reason.
