CAPE MAY- The first Wine Train in the history of Cape May Seashore Lines made its inaugural run from this Victorian city to the Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery in Middle Township Oct. 12.

The two-car train, featuring a 1940's vintage cafe car and a dining car, left Cape May shortly after noon and stopped in Middle Township off Seashore Road, across the street from Hawk Haven Winery about 12:25 p.m. The tracks are located near the grape vines.

Ric Rutherford, owner of Rio Station restaurant led a wine tasting on board which continued with a lunch at the winery.

Todd and Kenna Wuerker, owners of Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery welcomed guests to their new tasting room. They said they would concentrate on regular trips beginning in the spring. Two Wine Trains are scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 13. For details see: www.hawkhavenvineyard.com

The trains marked the return of passenger trains on the railroad after a two year absence.

Ah! I wish I could have been there! Imagine the wine rack that was there. Too bad I was in Italy at a vineyard tasting some of the best wines in the world. You can't have everything in this life buy you can sure try. Next time when there will be such an event I'll try to be there!

The Joke's on You, Tuckahoe Kid

NJT loses about a Billion dollars a year running their 27 cent trains from AC to Philly. They get that back from YOU, silly taxpayer.

I personally know they have upgraded the tracks from Tuckahoe down to Cape May Court House. They were practically working in my back yard on it.
And he advertises rail service from Cape May City to Cape May Court House, so I'd imagine those rails are good? So how do they still need to be upgraded?

I'd want to be able to actually catch the train to places that get me somewhere I want to go.
Tuckahoe and Richland are not "destinations" in that people do not say "hey, let's go visit Tuckahoe today!"
Sure the train can run to Cape May, but lets be honest, probably about 1/10 of the people traveling to Cape May County actually go to Cape May.
Until you get stations outside of each barrier island, with a bus service into the towns, it will never work.
And all of this needs to happen daily.
You wonder why it failed once already? There isn't anyone around to ride the trains, and secondly, his pricing is outrageous as it is now, if you put it into perspective.
I can travel from Richland to Tuckahoe on his train for ~.65 cents a mile.
This gets me to no where, honestly why on earth would I want to go to Richland?
I can catch a train from Atlantic City to New York City, by way of Philadelphia for ~.27 cents a mile. This runs twice daily.
Atlantic City and NYC-both places are destinations for many people.
See what I'm saying?

It's also funny that he advertises "Railcar Storage"
I'm guessing these are the rail cars that he has sitting in Middle Township, rusting away.

Well, you'll see them on the Halloween, then almost 2 months with no trains, then once for Christmas, and then you won't see a train again for close to a year.

He thinks he can revive rail service to Cape May County...well what happened in Woodbine, where all these spurs were going to extend to business who would use them, and this business park that was going to be built?
Maybe if the train went somewhere people actually want to go, besides Cape May, and you got some sort of regular schedule running-more than once every 6 months-more like 3 times a day, people might actually ride it.
Why haven't Lowes and Walmart began getting freight by rail? The railroad is right behind their building...
