LOWER TOWNSHIP POLICE RELEASE:

ERMA — On Wednesday, Sept. 2, the Lower Township Police Department’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a female in the 500 Block of Seashore Road in the Erma Section of the Township indicating that her brother, who she stated has mental issues, was acting out.

When Corporal Kevin Boyle, Ptlm. Matt Dickinson and Special Officer Christopher Donohue arrived on scene, the female advised the Officers that her brother was now in possession of a large machetti. The Officers entered the residence with their weapons drawn and located Anthony Olszewski, age 40 in his bedroom holding a large machetti over his head.

Special Officer Christopher Donohue ordered Olszewski at gun point to drop the machetti and Olszewski immediately did so and was taken into custody. Olszewski was then transported by Lower Township Rescue Squad to Cape Regional Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

Olszewski’s sister then requested and was granted an emergency no contact restraining order against her brother by Lower Township Municipal Court Judge David Deweese.

Police Officers then confiscated the machetti Olszewski had been holding and several other edged weapons from his residence including two hand held sickles.

The incident was investigated by Corporal William Priole.

I have a great idea!!!! Since Mayor Beck Used To Be a cop in Philly, lets make him a Special Officer and he can answer some of these violent calls our officers have to face daily. Since Beck doesn't want to replace officers as they retire or get injured, he can put his life on the line since he's only making it more dangerous by not replacing officers!! Every week, our fine officers are subjected to a more violent circumstances than ever before. Let's put Beck on the "Front Line" as the first to answer the call!!

Is the editor on vacation this week? Since when did machetti become a word? Even the spell checker in the comment box picked this up as a typo.
And I didn't take that as cop bashing. I wouldn't want to be within 21 feet of a dude wielding a MACHETE

If the officer approached the man in a bedroom, I'm pretty sure he was well within 21 ft. Why did this story have to turn into bashing a cop? A guy is running around with a machete and you're complaining about a cop drawing his weapon..

Machete is correct in the headline but not in the article.

The nut job was apparently sane enough to realize an edged weapon is no match for a gun. I hope the cops took the minimum 21ft. rule into account.
