CAPE MAY – The rain stopped and the fun began here Saturday Aug. 29 as the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson discovering Cape Island was celebrated with a parade, to be followed by a number of other activities.

As the remains of Tropical Depression Danny passed by well offshore, the skies showed patches of blue as the parade stepped off at 11 a.m.

Participants in the parade included string bands from Philadelphia including Quaker City, Fralinger and South Philadelphia. Local mayors and councilpersons rode in convertibles or walked from Cape May, West Cape May and Cape May Point.

Local bands included Lower Cape May Regional High School , U.S Coast Guard Training Center and Wildwood Marching Warriors. Visiting bands included Oakcrest Marching Ambassadors from May’s Landing, Original Hobo Band from Pitman and Bonsal Blue Military Band from Woodbury.

Fire engines concluded the parade from West Cape May and Cape May which featured its antique truck.
