RIO GRANDE — Five people were injured when a Lincoln Town Car driven by Joseph Hasson of the Villas drove through the front of Hair Port Hair Salon here on Route 47 at around 4:20 on Tuesday, June 30.

Employee Karen Woulfe, of Lower Township, was working in the salon at the time of the crash. “We were working and the car just came flying though” said Woulfe as she held an ice pack on her knee. “Our other co-worker Jennifer—it was almost like slow motion---she got pushed right from the front of the car all the way to the back of the shop underneath all the hydraulic chairs and then there was a lady pined up against the wall”.

The driver of the car was uninjured in the crash and was walking around the scene watching firefighters aid the victims. “I came to pick up my wife and daughter--- I was pulling in here to park and the car just would not stop, the car just kept going. Hasson said.

Four customers and one salon employee were injured. They were transported to the Cape Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, according to police.

The Rio Grande Fire Department, Rio Grande Rescue Squad, Middle Township Rescue Squad, Wildwood Fire Department and the Lower Township Rescue Squad responded to the scene.

The crash is under investigation by Ptlm. Julio Ruiz, Detective Kenneth Martin and Detective Clint Stocker.

Charges are pending, according to police.

Staff reporter Harry B. Scheeler, Jr. contributed to this report.

neveryoumind11 IS A DUMMY. WHY DO YOU THINK THAT BUSINESSES NEED TO PROTECT THERE PATRONS. SOMETIMES PEOPLE GET TO A CERTAIN AGE (NOT SCPECIFYING A AGE GROUP) AND THEY NEED TO LET FAMILY TAKE CARE OF THEM. IN MY OPINION BASED ON THE VIDEO, THE GUYS SEEMS COHERENT ENOUGH TO CONDUCT A NORMAL LIFE. HE MADE A MISTAKE, HE SHOULD PAY FOR THAT MISTAKE IN SOME FASHION. THE REASON WHY WAWA HAS CONCRETE BARRIERS ARE FOR THOSE STUPID A-HOLES THAT DRIVE 30 MILES AN HOUR THROUGH THE PARKING LOT WHERE PEOPLE ARE WORKING AND WALKING.I EVEN BET THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE JERKS THAT DOES THAT. SLOW THE F*** DOWN AND THINGS WOULD BE BETTER. GOT A PROBLEM WITH MY WORDS EMAIL ME @ bigj_sr@comast.net

P.S. I wrote in all caps because I wanted to SCREAM IT AT YOU DUMB A**!

No biggie if someone gets is confused between the gas and brake pedals and cause people horrific injuries. According to nevermindyou11 it's the businesses fault. Maybe kill a couple of people next time. You know it's the stores fault for not installing cement barriers like the wawa.

Well it was an accident so no matter wHo got hurt or how badly they were hurt it wasnt his fault......apparantly its the buisnesses or maybe even the people who were patrons of the shop or the people who work there or the people walking by the shop on there way to get some milk.....etc

I jumped to the same conclusion regarding the age of the driver; however, nowhere in this or the Press' article does it give his age.

How fast was he pulling into the parking lot and parking space? Even if the car wouldn't stop, if he was going at a reasonable speed in a parking lot, I doubt the car would've went through the shop with such force.

My family would like to thank the women that stood by my mothers side while the resuce workers were helping her. You gave her comfort when we were not there to comfort her. For that we are grateful! We have your jacket & angel. The angel kept an eye on her just like you said. Thank you!

We should not be putting fault on the owners of the property because they dont have polls in the front of the building like Wawa. The man who was driving was at fault. Yes accidents do happend but this was a serious accident. Not only did people get physically hurt but imagine what is going on mentally with the victims. They were out to pamper themselves & a car smashes into were they are sitting. Two people & a worker were at the front window the man drove through. Thank God they are alive.

YES THANK THE LORD NO ONE WAS HURT. PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GIVE THE POORMAN A BREAK. MAYBE THATS WHY THEY SHOULD HAVE SAFETY POLLS LIKE THEY HAVE AT WAWA IN FRONT OF THE STORE. THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE PEOPLE WHO WERE HURT.

Car would not stop, the car just keep going. YA RIGHT! Especially when you mash down the long pedal on the right. Time to give up driving.
