Lower Police Answer Over 3,000 Calls in May

ERMA — Lower Township Police Department received over 3,152 calls for service during the month of May.
Officers investigated 36 Domestic Violence complaints, and the following offenses:
13 Assaults
27 Theft Investigations
18 Burglaries
40 Criminal Mischief Complaints
82 Disorderly Conduct Complaints
70 Animal Complaints

Lower Township Officers responded to 37 Motor Vehicle Accidents while issuing 330 traffic summonses and 63 traffic warnings while conducting 685 motor vehicle stops and 853 Commercial and Residential Property Checks.

Officers arrested 58 adults and 20 juveniles during the month, including eight for Driving While Intoxicated and 12 for Possession of a Narcotic.

Officers responded to 135 Emergency Medical Calls with the Lower Township Rescue Squad and 47 Fire Alarm Calls with the township’s three fire departments. Patrol Officers responded to 48 commercial and residential burglar alarms.

One police officer was assaulted after responding to a disorderly persons call. Some of the more serious incidents during the month of May included:
• May 1: Drug investigation leads to the arrest of a subject with over $6,500 worth of Percocet and Oxycotine pills.

• May 1: Investigation regarding a male exposing himself in an area of Mulligan Field in the Villas.

• May 6: Break in and burglary investigation at the Villas VFW building.

• May 11: Drug investigation nets one arrest and 50 bags of Crack Cocaine at the Cold Spring Dock.

• May 14: Two subjects arrested after breaking into a residence in North Cape May, stealing property and bicycles after which one subject operating a stolen bike while intoxicated, was struck by a motor vehicle.

• May 26: Reported robbery at the Pantry One store in the Erma Section of Lower Township. Police Officers recovered over $400 in cash that suspect dropped while fleeing the scene.

• May 26: Drug investigation, subject arrested with over 40 bags of Heroin in the Shawcrest area.
• May 31: Sex crimes investigation, subject charged with Criminal Sexual Contact of a mentally challenged female at Channel Apartments in North Cape May.
