ERMA — On Tuesday May 26 at approximately 7 p.m., Lower Township police received a call from a female motorist reporting that a white pick up truck driving erratically had run her off of the road and went through the Middle Thorofare Bridge toll booth on Ocean Drive without paying the dollar toll.

The reporting party also gave the registration number of the pick up truck to the police
department. A look up of the registration came back to an address in the 200 block of Joanne Avenue in
the North Cape May section of the township.

Patrol officers responded to that location and a short time later observed the suspect vehicle
pull into the driveway of the residence. Officers immediately pulled behind the vehicle with their over head lights activated to conduct a car stop.

At that time the driver of the pick up truck, identified as John Schultz age 50, ran from his
vehicle toward the rear of the residence. Schultz ran to the back door with officers in pursuit and then attempted to slam the door shut on the officers before he was detained at the scene.

Officers then administered a field sobriety test to Schultz after which he was arrested for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Lower Township Police Department for processing.

Following processing at the police department, Schultz was charged with the following offenses: driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test and having an open alcohol beverage container in his vehicle.
