Late Term Abortion…America Doesn’t Torture?

To The Editor: In President Obama's first 100-days news conference, he restated that he wants to pass the "Freedom of Choice Act." This legislation would take away a state's right to decide its own position on practices such as late-term or partial birth abortions. A nurse who formerly worked for a doctor who practiced all forms of abortions described partial birth abortion as a procedure, which actually takes three visits to complete. On the last visit, the doctor turns the baby so it is face down and entering the birth canal feet first. The baby is then carefully pulled out so just the base of the skull is exposed — any further would risk a live birth. A needle-like instrument is then inserted at the base of the skull and "scrambles" the brain, which is then sucked out making the skull easier to crush. Once this is done, the baby is completely removed and disposed of. The argument has been given that this procedure is used for the safety of the mother's health, but it takes three days, and in any other instance a feet-first delivery or breech birth would be considered very dangerous to the mother and the child. If the doctor is unable to turn the baby, he has to do a "C-section" to save the lives of the mother and child. But, then, this is not about saving the baby. Obama reassured Planned Parenthood during his campaign of his support for the "Freedom of Choice Act" and reaffirmed this position in his April 30 address. He has appointed a woman as Secretary of Health and Human Services who finally admitted to receiving very generous donations from a late-term abortion doctor in her home state; plus, she is on record as vetoing legislation there that would ban this practice thus affecting her donors livelihood. Yet, Obama says America doesn't torture, condemning practices such as water boarding terrorists who attacked our country killing thousands in an effort to obtain information to prevent further attacks like 9/11. What about the innocent live baby who is brutally murdered only inches from coming into this world? Even in saline injection-induced abortions, fetal monitors have registered severe distress and convulsive movements of the baby as its skin is burned off also ingesting the saline. And "D & C," that just cuts up the baby limb from limb. Obama said "Torture corrodes the character of a country." What does his position say about the future of our country? Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, believed in eugenics (the enhancement of human populations through the manipulation of genetics). She admired Hitler’s desire to create a "pure race" in spite of his methods of eliminating "undesirables." Her first clinics were set up in black and other minority neighborhoods. These areas are still heavily targeted. Don't believe it? Google a few articles on her philosophy. So what’s next? Could it be legalized euthanasia in order to save Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid costs by unburdening the system of "non-productive people" (or even anyone else Homeland Security defines as a domestic threat)? Perhaps the president should re-examine his definition of torture and realize that American values that do not put a high premium on the value of human life are disgraceful. God help us. How crazy that anyone thinks that partial birth abortion does not go on in this country. God help a country that kills its babies at ANY gestational age!

I have first hand knowledge of these types of procedures through a number of people I know who have either been through them, or work in the offices that perform them. Partial Birth Abortions are NOT performed in the State of New Jersey- nor do I know of any states they are performed in. There are, however, late-term procedures, which do NOT take three days to complete. As well as a doctor would not perform a c-section on a woman who is under 24 weeks pregnant, the fetus is still small enough to very easily pass through the birth canal.

D&Cs are widely used at the method for late-term abortions, as well as any medical abortion after 12 or so weeks along. They are also used and an option for women who have miscarried anytime after 6 weeks. Many, if not all, hospitals perform this procedure for women who have miscarried.

I really wish people would do research before posting about such controversial topics. So many people are miseducated on topics like this, and it gets passed along to others. I urge you to read NEWER articles (the one about the nurse who details a "partial birth abortion" is from the early-to-mid-90s). If you must, check out websites like Snopes.com, which debunks popular e-mail forwards and articles such as the one you have obviously read.
