Cape May County residents in four communities held elections on Tuesday, May 12, however only two elections were contested.

In West Cape May, a ticket of incumbents Mayor Pamela Kaithern, Commissioner Peter Burke and newcomer Ramsey Geyer won. Burke received the most votes in the borough election, however, Kaithern will continue as mayor, he said.
Unofficial vote totals for West Cape May: Burke: 295, Kaithern: 288, Geyer: 274 and challenger James Labrusciano 249. Voter turn out was just under 60 percent.

"I'm glad that the silent majority wasn't silent," said Burke.

"Back to work," said Kaithern, who begins her ninth year of public office.

"It was close but I think its a fair assessment of what the community is looking for," said Geyer."I think they are looking for a continuation of the work the team had already started."

He said the Kaithern, Burke, Geyer ticket campaigned door-to-door and used emails and letters to voters.

While waiting for election returns, Kaithern and Burke munched Dove Bars which contained about the same amount of calories as they vote totals they received.

Labrusciano, who made his first run for office, told the Herald he wanted to thank his team for "all the valiant effort they put forth..." He said he did as well as he could challenging a "well-oiled machine."

In Wildwood Crest the incumbents seeking reelection were Carl Groon, Joyce Gould, and Don Cabrera. Robert J. Bethel was trying to unseat one of the three. According to unofficial results:

Groon received 539 votes, Gould received 543 votes and Cabrera received 497 votes. Bethel garnered 198 votes.

In Avalon, Nancy Hudanich, Joe Tipping, Dave Ellenberg were all seeking reelection. Sea Isle City's election featured John Divney, Michael McHale, Mary Tighe running for three seats.
