Roller Derby takes over the Wildwoods

The Wildwoods will host hundreds of roller derby enthusiasts, skaters, and vendors at its first official Roller Derby Weekend, May 8 through 10.

This hard-hitting event will feature a full day of bone-crushing games, a parade in front of the Wildwoods Convention Center and various other skate-inspired festivities.

Male and female roller derby skaters from throughout the country are expected to attend the Colossal Coastal Roller Expo (CCRE) hosted by the Wildwoods Convention Center, the South Jersey Derby Girls, Wildwood Harley-Davidson, the Alton Motel, and the City of Wildwood.

The Colossal Coastal Roller Expo will boast numerous Hall of Fame Roller Derby Stars of the past along with dozens of national vendors.

The weekend will begin on Friday, May 8, with Roller Derby Workshops taking place at Wildwood Harley-Davidson.

The Derby Girls will be on location from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. The Derby Girls will then head to The Wharf, 708 W. Burk Avenue, for a cocktail mixer.

Registration for these events is available at ccrollerexpo.com/register.html, and the prices vary depending on the package chosen.

May 9, will feature a Derby Parade at the Wildwoods Convention Center from 10 a.m.-noon. A full day of hard-hitting roller derby action will follow inside the Wildwoods Convention Center from noon-9 p.m.

All-day tournament play on Saturday is open to spectators.

The Roller Derby Weekend will end on Sunday with derby scrimmages taking place from 10 a.m.-noon at Wildwood Harley-Davidson.

Tickets for Saturday’s roller derby event in the Wildwoods Convention Center are available through ccrollerexpo.com and ticketmaster.com.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and kids under 10 get in free. Military and student tickets are offered for $10 with ID.

Fans can also purchase tickets at Wildwood Harley-Davidson, 127 W. Rio Grande Ave., or the Alton Motel, 235 E. Wildwood Ave.
