WILDWOOD — The clock jumped back 41 years April 25 when The Turtles, Herman's Hermits and Felix Cavaliere's Rascals took the stage at the Wildwood Convention Center.
Folks are calling this year's Sensational 60s concert the best ever staged.
The Turtles offered as much humor as musical talent sounding as good as they did in 1966. Singer Mark Volman joked that the Turtles had opened for Herman's Hermits 41 years ago and here they were in 2009 doing the same.
Felix Cavaliere offered as much soul as a Ray Charles concert as he sang behind a big Hammond B-3 organ. He played all the Rascals hits along with a number of the 60s classics including a surprise: Led Zeppelins "Whole Lotta Love."
Headliners, Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone were introduced by Philly radio and television legend Ed Hurst who said he introduced the band 41 years ago when they played Atlantic City's Steel Pier.
Noone led a singalong of "I'm Henry the VII I Am" and all the other Hermit Hits. He joked about having trouble finding Wildwood, paying lots of tolls on the parkway and stopping at Starbucks in Rio Grande.
The weekend featured outdoor concerts both Saturday and Sunday featuring The Large Flowerheads and Full House, both of whom faithfully produced more hits of the 60s.
The event was sponsored by the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce that also presents The Fabulous 50's Concert weekend in the fall.

Kudos to the Wildwood Chamber of Commerce and to the weather. Every event including the Geator Friday nite hop, the concerts at Fox Park, the car show and the DJs from WILW/WIBG was outstanding.
The concert Saturday nite was really highlighted by Peter Noone. He can still hit those notes and not only did he give 100 percent but he stayed at the Convention Center signing autographs for a very long line of admirers. He was a perfect and gracious gentleman. My wife waited 43 years to meet him and Wildwood made it all possible.
Really looking forward to the 50s weekend.
WELL DONE WILDWOOD!!!
