I would like to start by wishing a full and healthy recovery to the woman who was hurt in this accident, Karen. I have only known Jim for a year or so; but anytime I talked to him, he treated me with repect and kindness of a lifelong friend. He will be truly missed by many people in the Upper darby area. Jim spoke of his wife and grandson with countless love- I think he showed me a picture of his grandson everytime I saw him. He often expressed a great passion for fishing, the Jersey shore, and traveling to Hawaii.
I would also like to add that the critics who have posted negative comments about Jim should be ashamed. I do not know the cause of this accident, but regardless a kind and generous man has been lost. Think about what you say before you go and trash someone you have never met. Someday you could tragically lose a friend and will look back at what you posted and feel terrible. Rest in Peace Jimmy.

While Karen Walker is making assumptions, let me make some of my own. Karen Walker is a divorced, overweight, bitter woman, with entirely too much time on her hands. I can assume that she's divorced because her husband must be sick and tired of her chronic complaining. Her children has probably disowned her because she mettles in everyone's business, and mostly her kids. Now, since she has lost all the loved ones in her life, she has resorted to overeating and gorging. The bitter part speaks for it's self, and having too much time on her hands is a reflection of the fact that she can sit and look out the window all day while at work. State job there Karen? Hopefully the other workers at your office that "are" working don't read your comments. Then they too, can disown you, and hate your guts like everyone else does.
Now how did that feel Karen? Someone has made an analogy about "YOU," without any concern for your feelings or how it would affect your family and friends. (If you have any) My statements here are nowhere near as hateful as yours were. I hope Jim Trout's' wife and family don't read your comments. It would hurt them terribly.
I'm going miss Jim. He was a good man that loved fishing and the beach. There are 20 other people here that worked with Jimmy, and we all send our best to his wife. We also are pulling for Karen Thompson to recover quickly.

The Parkway has come this far south for how long? Head on collisions at speed seem to only be an issue as of late.
Instead of crying for barriers why not look into why all of a sudden people are losing control of vehicles and killing themselves or others.

My heart goes out to the Trout and Thompson families...I was in your shoes on December 23, 2008. Something needs to be done about the roadway, and it looks like nothing is going to happen unless the friends and families of the victims of these accidents speak out...after my son was killed, Jeff Van Drew had a big press conference stating that something needs to be done....that was over 3 months ago, and NOTHING has changed! And now 2 more families are forever changed. As for the ignorant people that make accusations when they have nothing to base it on, do you realize how hurtful and disrespectful you are being to these families??? Have some compassion and realize that ACCIDENTS happen, not always are there drugs, alcohol or speeding involved! God bless everyone involved, you are in my prayers.

Wow...there goes Karen Walker again. Running her mouth appears to be what she is good at. Must not care that a life was lost in this accident. Not a care in the world for the family left behind. Find something else to do other then sitting on the computer everyday writing your comments on every news story. You have no idea how the accident happened. No idea!!! As with the other stories i have seen you post your comments to. You know nothing!!! You say what you you believe happened. If you were to get into an accident would you like it if people sat here and said " oh well they were speeding, or they were drunk" or whatever. Have a little respect. Will you!!! My prayers go out to the Trout and Thompson families.

My sympathy also goes out to the family who lost a loved one. I have to comment on a couple of things here. First to Karen walker.... How can you say that this was caused by out of state drivers on "vacation" and that speed was the issue??? and ohh alcohol of course? Let me start by saying that I have no connection to any of the familys involved in the crash. Did you allow your brain to think about the possibility that maybe the guy had a heart attack, stroke or seizure. This would also explain the cause of this crash. Second, To Alex McCollum : To call the guy who was filming this a fat ass...very immature at the least. He is within his rights to film whatever and you know it. would it be unfortunate for the family to see the film before the death was announced? yes but its the world we live in and its called journalism. It doesnt change the fact that it happened. I to work in the medical field and see all kinds of horrible things and they also get taped. What about the guy who hit the barrier in egg harbor township. That was taped by the parkway cams. Can you call that person who set that cam up a name too. I understand your frustration exp when there is a loss of life and you were not able to help. I just think your directing this anger in the wrong direction.

My sympathy goes out to the Trout family. It is terrible to lose someone in your family, especially around the holidays. My prayers go out to Karen Thompson. I hope your injuries are not severe and you make a quick recovery. God Bless.

I got my news on this from the Philly stations - NBC 40 is a joke. My main concern is the speed and the idea that these out of state drivers think that there are no rules when they are "on vacation" - this type of impact is caused by speed and speed alone - and possibly alcohol of course. There is no hurry but I watched people speeding past my office window all day long Friday, let alone how rude they are in the stores - pushing and shoving - again I say, what's the hurry!

This is news and the Herald does a very good job of reporting THE NEWS. I thought it was rather juvenile to call someone names for doing his job. Hopefully this type of media coverage will continue. How else will be be able to bring attention to the unsafe conditions on our roads in South Jersey? We need improvements at this end of the Parkway. If witnessing the devastation through the eyes of the camera is a means of making improvements then so be it.
Alex, you definitely have issues. I hope you are able to get some help. As a child I saw more blood, guts and death on the 6:00 news reporting the war in Viet Nam. There was nothing wrong or in bad taste with this video. It is not the atrocity you are making it out to be.

yes let's attack the Herald again meanwhile the Coast steals stories, NBC40 is always late, the gazette/leader was sleeping and the Press posted their story based on information they watched in the video. the Herald is always under fire because they tell the story the day before the press release and they tell it the best, with a wide variety of responses from the community. i agree there is nothing wrong here if you feel negatively feel it for the parkway situation not multimedia coverage

firepolice2706, although i hear where you are coming from, i dont necessarily agree. as someone mentioned below this coverage would not be any different if it were a major metro. what is shown here is rated G and i'm sure the Herald made some cuts to not show anything unnecessary. i hope this doesn't turn into the same negative response that existed with the last fatal crash in terms of the coverage. Lets focus on the families involved and how to prevent this in the future rather then how the Herald sharing this event with the community..

Hello, my Name is Alex McCollum I live in the City of Cape May and Was Part of the Cape May County Fire Police and my main job is filming Fire's and I have to say that this is Sick beyond Belief, why do I say this when others may say I am no better filming a House fire, the one thing I have never done nor never will do is film a fire where someone has passed away in said fire, filming the death of a Person who has not even been taken from the car is sick and this person needs to seek help, yes no names were give in as to who it may be, but how would you feel if this was the site you always went to for your news and it was your mother father brother sister and you knew that was there car from the way it looked it from the Plate numbers on it, it's not right nor fare to anyone, he has done this too many time and I believe in the Rights to free Press act but your going to far Filming the Death of someone and I also believe this with the 9/11 attacks, of people falling and jumping from the trade Centers, that's sick as well, I do believe that people should have seen what took place on that day but not people falling or trying yo save them selves, if you know the fat ass who does these videos, I will be more then happy to tape him if anything bad ever happens to him. If you like or Dis like what you have read your more then welcome to call me I'm a paramedic and was in the Air Force as a PJ so unless you live it seeing what this does to other people then you have no right to say a thing about it until your loved one is wrapped around a poll asking someone to save or help them 884-5224

cm-local, the Herald is a compassionate, Christian newspaper. Video is the direction that local community newspapers are going. This would be no different if it happened on I-95 in Philadelphia and several major news channels would air it with millions of viewers. No names were mentioned, and they will await a Press Release. The Herald is giving our community a chance to have a voice so that solutions to issues like this can be expedited. My heart goes out to the families involved.

It is not the county faults that there is no guard rail but the NJ Turnpike Authority. If we lived in north jersey it would have been addressed already. Come on Jeff Van Drew jump on another band wagon. Nothing has been done since the last death you said it would be addressed after the last fatal on the same stretch of highway. Jeff your just a blow hard.

I understand that the Herald is trying to provide the public with up to date news. I just feel posting this video so early was not a good idea. Does the Herald know if the families of the victims were notified? Having video with the vehicles involved is bad enough but you can even see the license plate number to one of the vehicles. I just hope the Herald uses some compassion towards the victims when it comes to posting their videos.

My father and I were just saying the same thing, There needs to be a concrete barrier or a guardrail down that strip of the GSP. If it was already in place, perhaps these lives could've been saved. My prayers go out to these families as well. :(

I guess the county fell behind with the concrete barier again. What is this the 3rd serious accident and the 2nd fatal. Gotta love this county draging their a@* as usual. I am sure that they will blam the other driver's speed then admit that they could do something to help the citizen's of the county. Prayer's go out to the family of the victim's. Another holiday with a unhappy ending on that stretch of road.

I am listening to the scanner, it said fully involved vehicle fire with entrapment.
Said the got one person out, other one did not make it. Very sad to happen
at Easter. They have the GSP blocked off from Shell Bay ave to Stone Harbor Blvd.
