OCEAN VIEW-- A car lost control and hit a utility pole here on Route 9 and Cedar Dr, injuring an Ocean View woman on Thursday, March 12, around 8:00 p.m.,according to State Police.

The crash was witnessed by Joe Glazier who lives across the street from the intersection. "I was on my front porch and I heard a noise, I looked up and I saw the car driving down the wrong side of the road, then it left the road hit a mail box and then the pole."

Another witness who only identified herself as "Linda" said she did not see the crash but "heard the bang". When she opened her front door she witnessed the woman roll out of the car onto the ground.

According to Linda last year "on Martin Luther Kings Birthday" the same pole was struck by a Ford Mustang however the pole was not replaced a decision she believes saved the drivers life.

"It's scary this pole was hit before by a Mustang, that may have saved this kids life since the pole was already weakened otherwise it would have been like hitting a solid tree", said Linda.

The crash caused a power outage in the area from Avalon Blvd to Cedar Dr, according to State Police.

The Ocean View Fire Department, Belleplain Emergency Corps and Medic 9 were dispatched to the scene with Troopers from the Woodbine station.

The 34 year-old-driver was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by Belleplain Emergency Corps and Medic 9 with non-life threatening injuries.

Route 9 was closed for over two hours as Atlantic City Electric crews worked to replace the utility pole.

The accident is under investigation by Trooper Bounds of the Woodbine station.

Why doesn't the Herald do followups on stories like these - like the fact that the girl who caused this accident and left us without power for 12 hours and did thousands of dollars of damage - was high on heroin and packets were found in the car. Why didn't the police interrogate the only witness, Joe Glazier, your paper did. Who are you protecting - it's a matter of public record now...so why doesn't the Herald do its job - too busy destroying the 1st amendment!

Radios are better built these days and tend to hold up to heavy accidents!

I drove by this accident just after it happened, and just as the police were arriving, and it amazed me that the radio remained in the dashboard

How was "Linda" a witness, see she's the after affects of an accident and the herald calls her a witness. Horrible reporting. With what the Herald calls witnesses, I must have witnessed 5000 accidents in my 30 years of driving

This is the 5th (maybe more) SINGLE VEHICLE accident in the last year within less then a 1/4 mile of cedar drive and Rt 9 intersection All of which have caused the vehicles to be destroyed. Must be going very fast!!!! ?????? Don't understand it.

This area of Rt. 9 does not have a bend, its straight! Very scary!

I live across the street too and the noise and electrical explosion were so large and loud it scared me. I hope the person will be ok. We just got our back electric on - took 12 hours!!!!! Although we went all night with no heat, water or electricity, at least the AC Electric guys were here on the job the entire time and did the best they could under the conditions - thanks for your dedication!
