GOP Assembly candidate Michael Donohue
OCEAN CITY — Republican State Assembly candidate Michael John Donohue, in a Monday, Feb. 9 release, called on Gov. Jon Corzine to abandon a lawsuit filed by the state to force Catholic hospitals, among others, to perform abortions against their conscience.
Speaking over the weekend to a group of pro-life advocates in here, Donohue said the suit is a waste of taxpayers’ money.
“Current federal regulations allow health care providers opposed to abortion to not offer those services. Existing services are unaffected. Gov.Corzine’s lawsuit seeks to force people to perform abortions against their will and beliefs.”
Donohue suggested that, instead, the state should be spending that money suing the federal government to collect the costs incurred by the state related to illegal aliens.
“Instead of pursuing this radical far-left agenda, Gov. Corzine should instruct the Attorney General to sue the federal government for reimbursement of the costs New Jersey taxpayers shell out for illegal aliens,” Donohue stated.
“It costs the taxpayers of New Jersey over $2 billion a year for education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens. This is a problem largely caused by the federal government. Let us stop suing the federal government to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions and let us bring a lawsuit to recoup that $2 billion,” Donohue stated.

I disagree with 10:26pm. Mr. Donahues' ancestors came to America legally and showed respect and a desire to be an American. From the first second these illegal aliens put a foot on US soil they broke the US law of immigration. They did not care and they don't care now. They further compound the breaking the US laws by performing identity theft, failure to pay income or state taxes, and many other breaking of laws. If they were actual US citizens, they would be in prison. I don't desire to reward law breakers with the highest honor awarded to a "real" immigrant......that is, US citizenship. I don't want one dime of a legal US citizen being spent on law breaking illegal aliens. The answer is not to legalize them but to self deport them by not providing them with US citizen entitlements and jobs.

Since 1776 "Common Sense" has always seemed like radical thinking to American politicans. It's a shame that Mr Donohue even need to point out the ridiculusness of this suit given the current law, not to mention its encroachment on the free exercise clause of the constitution. Donohue clearly has a good head on his shoulders. I agree with him on the 2 billion the feds owe us, but personally I'd like to see most of these illegals made legal. They are after all very similar to Mr. Donohues anceastors, hard working Catholic immigrants. "No taxation without representation" so lets let them vote and pay. I bet alot would vote for Mike Donohue

I'll move to Jersey just to vote for this guy...........maybe if we had more people like this stepping up to the plate we wouldn't be serving up our beliefs and money on Corzines plate.

See the Letter to the Editor on the Freedom of Choice Act. Another horrible thing that those in power are forcing on us. I'm glad this guy has the guts to take a stand on an issue that his opponents would't dare touch.

Very few people have the guts to challenge those in power now, who govern by threats and dirty tactics, made possible by Camden money and hidden behind a facade of cutesiness. THey will try again to tear down an honorable individual, unless we stand up to them.

5:57 I like you used to think the best candidate wins. Unfortunately it comes down to money most times. We need to make sure that doesn't happen this time. The two lackeys who rode in on coat tails have shown how sadly lacking they are. Now show them we deserve better.

How does anyone defend this lawsuit. Why does Corzine have to force dr.s and hospitals to do abortions that don't want to? This is what he is spending our money on while we are all struggling. This is nuts.

he lost last time because he was outspent 6 to 1 by the camden political hacks that put our current representation in office. you know, van drew's boys who have done NOTHING since being elected. oh i forgot, they did step up on handicap parking.

5:57 said it all. This guy is a "non-poliltician". He's one of us and he appears unafraid of taking a stand on complicated issues, unlike the current "politicians" we have in office. Even our vaunted Senator lost his first time running for the Assembly. We need more "non-politicians".

If Mike is so wise, why didn't he win the election last year? It's easy for a private citizen (meaning a non-politician) to spout off ideas without rebuke. Maybe he should save his "soapboxing" for election time.

Finally, someone running for state office on real issues.

We have heard more from this guy in the past week than we have from Albano and Milam in a year. What are they up to and why are they so silent?
Either way, if Donohue keeps this up we are going to have a new Assemblyman that actually represents Cape May County for once!

What are you going to do sue the Federal government for $2 billion every year? That's what it cost every year for legal NJ taxpayers to support illegal aliens.
A better idea would be to make E-verify mandatory to every business in NJ. No jobs...they will leave. Get tough on the illegal aliens that are killing NJ financially and I would even campaign for you, even though I'm a Democrat.
Then you are left with Democratic Senator Menedez, the biggest proponent of illegal aliens in the entire United States. Lucky us. He's the guy that had e-verify removed from the stimulus package, so his illegal aliens could get those 3 million American jobs.

I never heard about this either, and I do not want MY money being spent to force abortions.

Now that's leadership we could believe in!

This is a good start for Donohue. Returning some semblance of Common Sense and shining the light of day on the true agenda of Corzine and the Dems will hopefully wake the people of this country up. Obama's drumbeat is "Only the government can......". We must remeber that only the PEOPLE empower the government. We need to unite REAL people for REAL change.

Why don't we hear about these things more. Our tax money is being spent to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions? I didn't sign up for that. And I would support trying to get all the money back we spend on illegal aliens. This makes sense. So Trenton won't do it.

It is about time a real leader stood up to Trenton and supported our views. Go Mike, we are behind you!

Thank you, Michael John, for your voice on this issue.
How can the state force doctors and nurses to perform surgeries that are against their conscience? It is an outrage.
Conversely, the state apparently has no problem supporting illegals to heck with Americans.
These issues are both too upsetting. Our government is letting us down in both of them.
MJD, you have my vote.
