OCEAN VIEW -- State Police are investigating a crash that occurred here at 507 Sea Isle Blvd. on Monday, Feb. 9 at 8:44 a.m.

The crash involved a 2002 R.E. Pierson construction Mack dump truck driven by John Sharp, Jr., 60 of Mullica Hill and 2008 Kia Spectra driven by Christen Otter, 28 of North Cape May. Otter was trapped in her car for an unknown amount of time.

Medevac 5 was requested to fly Otter to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's trauma unit in Atlantic City with back and lower leg injuries.

According to State Police, Otter was trying to make a left-hand turn at a stop sign on Sea Isle Boulevard. The dump truck driven by Sharp struck the side of her car and the two vehicles wedged together.

Sharp had the right away according to Trooper Randy Wetzel.

Belleplain Emergency Corps, Medic 9 and Ocean View Fire Department responded to the scene with Troopers from the Woodbine and Bass River stations.

The accident is under investigation by Trooper Randy Wetzel at the Bass River Station.

Earthtech trucks should also be watched. I watched a guy with a roll-off container truck barrel around the turn from Route 50 onto route 9, I thought the truck was going to roll over.
Doing 60 mph easily.
They think they own the road because they're driving an 80,000lb truck.

These truck drivers think they own the road. There used to be a so called "code of ethics" they observed . I personallly know severa l truckers and they don't consider the road shared by other, but think they own it. One report stated that the young lady saw the truck and he could have at least swerved off to the side but continued straight ahead.
Don't assume all people don't stop at signs just because you don't. Most of the truckers I seeen are exceeding the speed limit by at least 15- 20 miles. Where are these state troopers when you need them????

I too will attest to Piersons drivers drive like maniacs on 550. They pull out of their driveway and don't even stop. I've been on my motorcycle and have had to swerve into the other lane because they pulled out with out even looking.
Someone needs to review their CDL's and the state police need to start being more proactive with traffic offenses of drivers of commercial vehicles. Its all too often that I see dump trucks, or roll off trucks with no tarp and their contents blowing all over the cars behind them, large dump trucks speeding(sometimes in excess of 65mph) on Rt 550.
Its only a matter of time that someone gets killed by one of these drivers.
State Police-crack down on these drivers. They aren't exempt from traffic laws, and being's they are larger vehicles they take longer to stop, don't handle like a sports car, etc.
Don't even get me started on Action Supply's cement trucks.

I understand that the driver was not at fault THIS TIME!!! I travel on Route 550 everyday a few times a day and I can't tell you how many times I was almost struck by a Pierson truck. When they are coming out of their yard they don't even stop for the traffic driving on Route 550. I have heard serveral complaints about this situation. All I am doing is asking for them to come to a complete stop and look for the on coming traffic and not to pull out right in front of people!!!!

If the road is clear, 50 mph is not fast. This is another reason geriatric drivers should not be on the road, they can't take driving 50 mph on a 50 mph limit.

To the comment posted Mon 2/9/9 at 3:57 pm.....All of a sudden RE Pierson guys..blah blah blah...get a life....It wasn't the drivers fault. If the lady had stopped at the stop sign like you are supposed to, this would not of happened. Just like the other person said NO ONE in Cape May County knows how to stop. Just because you have no life and sit at your front door and watch these trucks driving. Why don't you sit your lazy butt on my front porch on Kings Highway and watch the albrecht &huen trucks, agate trucks and county vehicles fly down that road. It is posted 35 on the portion where i am....these trucks fly past there. Dont sit there and blame a whole company for a drivers faults. RE Peirson is a great company and very well run. As i to how i know this...My husband works for them..and guess what he works in the yard. So RE Peirson itself is not to blame..And to add to everything. These drivers have been warned time and again...Why don't people look towards other Truck companys as well. i dont know how many times i can count being almost run off the road by an EarthTech Truck. One flew through a red light at 550 and corson tavern road and almost hit my car with my two young children in it. If your gonna point in one direction...point in other directions as well.

The view to the west is good at this intersection. It would be hard to blame the truck driver. I wish this young woman well and will pray for her and her family. Just remember to look both ways and err on the side of safety. You dont have a chance against a large truck. Always, Always Always merge and/or cross an intersection behind or after large trucks.

Honestly, how can anyone NOT see a truck coming? Even if it was going 100mph you'd still see it! This woman is lucky she wasn't killed for her poor judgment.

All you people do is complain. Read the article and it will clearly show that the driver of the Pierson truck had the right of way.

This is the same trucking co. that goes 50+ mph on Goshen Rd. in a 35 on its way to and from the Albrect and Huen pit in the 400 section of Goshen. Rd.

All of a sudden the RE Pierson guys are driving like maniacs, running stop signs and lights, was almost hit by 2 of them Friday, one blew through the light at 9 & SI Blvd and the other pulled right out of their grounds without stopping for traffic on 550. I was supportive of a new business taking over when Earthworks moved out, but now I am not so sure, they are completely irresponsible! State troopers where are you on this one!

Putting a light there won't solve anything. Just look at the lights on the Parkway, nobody stops for them.

Didn't poor Pearce Tire just not too long ago have a seizure victim land in their office?I wonder if this was one of the trucks thats been busy destroying the eastern end of Goshen Swainton road for the last few months. Between those fools and Albrecht and Huen the corner of 9 and G/S road will be a lake by summer.

They really need to put a light here, because no one in Cape May County know how to stop at a stop sign. Hope the person is ok......
