Former Middle Township Patrolman Walter Krych.

COURT HOUSE-- Former Middle Township Police Officer Walter Krych was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting two girls under the age of 13 on Friday, Feb 6.

Krych plead guilty to the second-degree offenses before Superior Court Judge Raymond Batten as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Krych must be registers as a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, is subject to community supervision after his release from prison and must avoid contact with the victims.

The girls were 9 or 10 years old, and friends of Krych’s daughter, when the sexual assaults took place during a sleepover in 2001 and 2002. Both girls are now teenagers.

One victim had come forward, leading to an investigation and his arrest Jan. 25. News of that arrest prompted another victim to contact police several days later. Krych, who was out on bail, was arrested again Jan. 28.

Krych, 54, served as a Middle Township police officer for 14 years. The Police Department suspended him without pay after the first arrest on Jan. 25 and his was indicted by a grand jury in May.

Krych is a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Air Force from 1974 to 1978.

Krych will be ineligible for parole for 85 percent of the term.

Could somebody please tell me what either Bush or Obama have to do with a chjild molester. Whether you like the cops or not, it is plain to see that they didn't just arrest one of their own on some flimsy evidence. Somebody said he gave a video taped statement, and that seems logical. That would explain the guilty plea, wouldn't it?

As far Vietnam, it's fairly good odds that a new Airman would probably have been assigned to Thailand or the Phillipines in '74, not Vietnam, but it is not entirely impossible.

As an officer he should abide by all laws!!!!! 7years is a joke. Guess thats another one of those benifits with being a police officer, judge, mayor. Every dog has his day and I guess today or should I say the day he enters those prison doors will be his rude awaking. Cape may county courts system is a total joke. Maybe its time we look into the court system here. There should be a certain sentence imposed when commiting crimes of this degree. I GUESS THE SAFEST THING FOR ME TO SAY IS THANK GOD THEY WEREN'T MY CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!! WELCOME TO CAPE MAY COUNTY EVERYONE

I have news for you!!! I'm not republican. This just proves the fact that I made.
And any sex crime doesn't have to do with wheather you're a democrat or a republican.

It doesn't really matter if you believe he is innocent or guilty, he plead guilty. That means he admitted he did it. He will go to prison and serve his time. When he is released he will have to register as a sex offender. Let his family be, so what if they support him. My sympathy goes out to his victims. Get a life bush had nothing to do with this.

Can someone answer this. Why did it take sooooooooo long for these girls to come forward or their parents?? If my daughters have been touched in a wrong way by anyone they would have told me right away and my husband and I would have taken care of it THEN NOT 7/8 years later. I DO NOT AGREE WITH ANYONE TOUCHING A CHILD BUT THIS WHOLE THING COULD HAVE BEEN MISUNDERSTOOD, MEMORIES CHANGE OVER YEARS AND SO DO STORIES.. WHERE WERE THE PARENTS OF THESE GIRLS??? HOW DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED A WEEK AGO LET ALONE 7/8 YEARS AGO COME ON PEOPLE. Where is the real story of what really happened...

Tue, 02/10/2009 - 5:11pm - Posted by: Anonymous

You republicans can slip Obama into anything cant you. Well I blame Bush for this crime since it happened on his watch

Mon, 02/09/2009 - 7:36pm - Posted by: Anonymous

For all you Cape May County low life that have nothing to say but negative things to say about Walt and attacking the police department, listen up. You are ready to mouth about things like this but don't know all the facts. First of all nothing was ever said about anything happening when he was on duty, so just let it go. The alleged incident happened off duty. You are probably the same ones that voted Obama in as President. The same one that is letting terrorist go, so they can come back and kill us all. I guess its ok to let terrorist go, after all they only killed people (american people) no big deal, but need to put a sex offener behind bars because they are more of a threat.

To Mon 11:09, The plea bargain is what he should have taken if he is SO innocent. Why would you say he took the plea bargain to save his family embarrassment if he is SO innocent. He admitted he was guilty so what more did he have to say?

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 11:59pm An innocent man that did not deserve to go to jail? It is too bad it didn't go to trial because then maybe they would have showed the videotape of his interrogation where he was CRYING LIKE A BABY and saying he is sick and couldn't stop himself. It is right in the Prosecutor's Office. Yes crying like a little girl...like the little girls he violated...the same why he will be crying when he is violated in jail. Even the scummiest convicts in jail have no tolerance for child molesters and you can GUARANTEE the word will be spread he was a cop and what he did. Hopefully someone will take care of him in there.

How does 1109 know that former Officer Krych wasn't one of those stationed in Viet Nam during thos last days. Saigon did not fall until April of 1975. By that time he may well have had 18 months in the service.

I am not related, but knew the man and liked him, as well. No, his wife did not leave him nor did his family abandon him. He was always very nice to our family and nothing untoward ever happened with our girls.

I tend to agree with the person who feels that Krych may well have "plead out" to avoid a lengthy trial and further embarassment to his wife and children. It is funny how people are so quick to point the finger on the WORD of another. For all of you, I have just two words -- DUKE LACROSSE.

God bless this family and I hope they are strong enough to endure the smallness of the minds of others.

Don't credit this scumbag with being a Vietnam veteran. After August 1973 only hand ful of advisors were left in Vietnam. Air force fighter and bomber squadrons were transferred to Thailand, although aircraft continued to support the ARVN operations until August 15, 1973. If he enlisted in the air force in 1974, he qualifies as a Viietnam Era Veteran.

I hope he gets everything he deserves in jail. The innocents of childhood was too short to begin with, without having it stolen by some animal.

Wow! I am so surprised at this. I've met this officer many times and I can't even believe what I'm reading! I think that child molesters are the worst kind of criminals and I really hope that this is not true. He was always so nice and helpful to me. I will definitely pray for his family.

skumbag i hope bubba gets him

Sun, 02/08/2009 - 12:00pm - Posted by: Anonymous

11:59 your 100% correct ,anybody can say anything, and you know what your dear and beloved Walt said, "I'M guilty".
Why would a man who has lost his job, and is facing prison, not go to trial if he is not guilty . Don't you think if this did not happen he would not go to court ,face his accusers in a court of law, and then lets weigh the evidence.
Walt did do one thing smart ,he plead down the charges, like most criminals do

Sun, 02/08/2009 - 10:17am - Posted by: Anonymous

To the 2/7/09-11:59 person, He should have not taken the plea bargain and he should have fought if he did not do this. You are probably a relative if you are standing behind him. What would you do if this was your Daughter?

Sun, 02/08/2009 - 3:10am - Posted by: Anonymous

disgusting...how can someone touch a child

Sun, 02/08/2009 - 12:59am - Posted by: Anonymous

I don't know about you guys but this was one of the best people i have ever got to meet. and for the family they are staying strong for their father, husband. this was a innocent man that did not deserve to go to jail. I think its sad how a girl can say they got touched in a place and with no proof they can send a innocent man to prison, so the only thing a guy can do is plead guilty so he wont get 25+ in prison because 98% of the time the guy will lose unless you have OJ's lawyer on your side. and just to show how messed up are COURT SYSTEM is and how innocent people can be sent to prison, look at the person who got convicted of murder with no proof and no body that's messed up. Walt does not deserve what them two girls accused him of doing. Wish you luck Walt stay strong be safe. All your friends and family are waiting for your return.

And it's not being sick it's just the plain simple truth, that any girl can say what ever they want to get a innocent men behind bars

There you go middle not even safe with your own police dept wait you were never safe

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 8:50pm - Posted by: Anonymous

No the wife didn't leave him.

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 6:28pm - Posted by: Anonymous

If you think he got off easy because he's a cop, then that's a first. CMCPO usually likes to fry its cops.

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 5:22pm - Posted by: Anonymous

This guy confessed to Middle Twp Police he did this. Then he told the judge in his own words he did then and pled guilty.

An ex-cop who is also a two time child molester will never make it out of prison alive. Even the evil people in this world have a line they don't cross and this discrasful man crossed it and the next day put on his uniform and badge.

Mark my words in the end justice will be served in this life or on his way to the next!

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 4:26pm - Posted by: Anonymous

I don't know if this man is guilty or not but to all of you stupid and I do mean STUPID people, he took the deal so he wouldn't have to do more time because if this went to trial with a jury, he would have received way more time. DDDUUUHHHHHHHH!!! The mentality of the people in this county really scares me. Is it the water? The school system? The really screwed up parents? Oh wait maybe the inbreeding!!! Child Molesters are everywhere! Doctors, Lawyers, Cops, Teachers, Coaches, Moms, Dads, Friends, Relatives ETC...... Wake up people!!

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 3:27pm - Posted by: Anonymous

To Sat 10:23am, it sounds like you are threatening the victims, are you? As a victim of abuse for several years, he got off easy but he won't in prison. No one, I repeat, NO ONE admits guilt to rape, sexual abuse, assault, etc unless they are GUILTY! Because he was a cop, he got a deal. Someone in authority who abuses such like priests, politicians, etc should be held to different standards. Your pacification might be why he got away with this case and others for awhile. Get a grip! Have some compassion for victims you lowlife!

I love the people who are now trying to defend this guy. First off he plead guilty so he wouldn't be sentenced to 50 years. And to the person who thought the girls were lying, your sick, very sick.

Am I correct in saying that the wife left him right away, maybe she was lying also, or knew the real sick truth

And to the Herald , please do not disgrace our fine officers by showing this convicted child molester in a police uniform, show his mug shot

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 2:32pm - Posted by: Anonymous

To the 10:23 am person-You must be a family member because if this happened to someone in your family you might feel different. If he is not guilty why did he take the plea bargain? If he were not guilty you would think he would have fought to prove his innocense. GET A LIFE!

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 12:40pm - Posted by: Anonymous

Seven years what joke! He should be locked up for at least nineteen or twenty years the total ages of the two little girls he hurt. Hopefully what goes around comes around and some big inmates will find him very irresistible!

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 12:39pm - Posted by: Anonymous

7 years is a disgrace! He should have received 70 years. As a male victim who was molested for years, any person of authority who does this crap should be sentenced to life. If they think they are above the law, sentence them above the law!!!

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 12:25pm - Posted by: Anonymous

I hope bubba has his way with him.

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 10:51am - Posted by: Anonymous

These things are tragedies for all concerned. I don't know what would make someone slip to this low, but taking the deal, shows compassion for his crime. He being a veteran, I wish him godspeed to his release and may he seek the help he needs. May his family and friends not abandon him, but stand by and support him through this difficult time.

Sat, 02/07/2009 - 10:37am - Posted by: Anonymous
