WILDWOOD- While Pennsylvania has its groundhog to predict when spring will arrive, this city has the Wildwood Pretzel.

Like his furry counterpart, if the pretzel sees his shadow, Cape May County gets six more weeks of winter. Unfortunately on Feb. 2, the Wildwood Pretzel saw his shadow at 1:55 p.m. at the end of Rio Grande Avenue.

To confirm his prediction, the pretzel took a polar plunge in the ocean to check the water temperature where he again saw his shadow emerging from the surf.

Check the video for all the details that includes a most unfortunate incident at its conclusion.

Now, I am from Pennsylvania. I think it's about time someone finally left us know with a more sensible man how winter is really determined. Now there are many variables to getting the correct reading. The pretzel looked like he knew exactly what he was doing, like a pro. Like the outfit.

What a sad ending for a very important meteorological indicator. I'm sure his two fans will reallly miss him. Perhaps the Wildwood Curly Fry or the Wildwood Kohr Brothers Twisty Cone could step in next year and keep the annual (well, first annual this year but still...) tradition going.

This was great. A modern day Mr. Bill!! I to was planning on attending next year until I saw the end of the video. Hopefully Mr. Wildwood Pretzel has extended family to carry on his tradition.

How can a pretzel see its shadow, when its not even living...maybe try a seagull. At east its a living organism.

Too bad his short lived career ended. I was on the verge of making advanced reservations to come to Wildwood in 2010 to increase his viewing audience from two to three.

When the Wildwood Pretzel Sees His Shadow, the Wildwood tax payer gets a 40 Cent tax hike and TROIANO & DAVENPORT get recalled.
