
MILLVILLE- MILLVILLE- Three people were airlifted following a single vehicle rollover here on Route 55 at mile marker 25.7 northbound, on Thursday, Jan 1 around 6:40 p.m.
State Police are investigating what caused A minivan that was traveling north on Route 55 to loose control. The van rolled over ejecting two onto the road, according to State Police. One of the ejected victims may have also been run over according to radio reports.
Millville Rescue Squad, Underwood Paramedics, Millville and Vineland Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene with State Police.
The driver of the minivan has been identified as Richard Andrus Jr., 44, of Lessburg. Police found Andrus and the front seat passenger, Mark Hitchner, a 48-year-old Millville man, ejected from the vehicle and lying on Route 55. Police found the third passenger, Joann Hitchner, 50, of Millville, still inside the van and conscious.
The crash left all three victims with head injuries and the two males also sustained leg and arm injuries.
South Star, Medevac 5 and Life Net One out of Newark, DE transported the victims to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, According to State Police.
Andrus and Hitchner are listed in critical condition, according to State Police.
The northbound lane on Route 55 was shut down for several hours.
Traffic on the southbound side was stopped for about one hour as the helicopters landed on the freeway..
The accident is under investigation by Trooper Dan Coia of the Port Norris Station and the Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.
