To The Editor: This is to set the record straight. At the Dec. 5 borough meeting of West Wildwood, the two commissioners and the mayor began the process to repeal the public safety director position as reported in the Herald Dec. 10. The story went on to describe how Anthony Renzi, who held the temporary public safety director position, was now being employed by the borough as administrative assistant, with a pay of $15 per hour, on an as-needed basis for 20-35 hours. The mayor has called this position temporary. The last administrative assistant was John Rogers who worked from 1998 to 2000. The mayor went on to say, “We’ve had an administrative position for years. The lady that used to have it was Joan Schultz.” Since March of 2004, and for the next four years, it is accurate that I took care of “loose ends” and other situations such as grants for summer concerts, festival planning, participation at MUA and JIF meetings. I was paid for 20 hours per week and never at the rate of $15 per hour, and never held a title of administrative assistant. Other borough residents and I are curious as to just what “loose ends” Renzi will be handling, since there is no evidence of his doing any of the above. It is also important to note, that although the office staff was entitled to mileage reimbursement, being residents and employees of the borough, no one ever requested reimbursement at anytime, for the sake of the borough.
