Venus, Jupiter and Earth's Moon seen at the Washington Street Mall in Cape May. Photos and animation by Rick Racela.

CAPE MAY- Sometimes celestial events will attract the attention of even those who normally don't bother looking up.

Earth's slender crescent moon, Jupiter and Venus converged on Dec. 1.

More than likely mistaken for stars, our two brightest planets surely caught the eyes of early evening commuters.

Yes, I saw this amazing sight and didn't know it was suppose to take place. Although it was 5 hours later than when you saw it. I live in England. Great photos.

A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a decent telescope for our grandchildren. Over the weekend, together, we viewed the moons of Jupiter.

I'm a lucky guy.

My hubby took my son outside to look. These pictures made me jealous. I should have gotten out of the chair to look. I missed a moment. Sigh.

I notice the bright lights around the moon on my way back to NCM around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. I knew they were too bright to be stars....but had no idea what planets they were. Thanks for astronomy lesson :)

I saw the configuration but really did not know what I was looking at. I thought it may be a sign form Obama that things are going to be alright. Like looking for the tip of Rudolph's nose on Christmas eve, lights from a plane sometimes excite the children who believe.

I saw this incredible lunar event last night when my wife and I were walking the dog. I did not know what it was but I started singing Christmas carols. Not the "Rocking around the Christmas Tree" and "Frosty The Snowman" stuff. I'm talking "WE Three Kings" and "Little Town of Bethlehem" type song. Strange. Beautiful.
