Police Arrest Man Suspected of Beating Friend After Drinking

NORTH CAPE MAY — On Nov. 20 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Lower Township Poilce responded to a report of a man lying outside a local convenience store located on Bayshore Road.

The victim, who was found bleeding with multiple injuries to his face and body, stated his friend “J.T.” beat him up after they had been drinking at two local bars.

According to a police report, the area was searched for the suspect with negative results.

The victim was treated by Lower Township Rescue and transported to the Cape Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. His injuries included a broken nose, broken finger and several broken ribs. In addition, he had multiple bruises and abrasions about his body.

During their investigation, Lower Township police developed two suspects ruling out one suspect who was in Florida and eventually locating the actor, the report stated.

The suspect was identified as James T. Smith, 29, of the 500 block of Route 47, Green Creek. He was charged with aggravated assault and remanded to county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail set by Judge David DeWeese.

Patrolman Kenneth McGurk and Detective Chris Lambert investigated the case.
