WOODBINE-- Students at Woodbine Elementary School cuddled up with a good book in their parents’ arms during the school’s Literacy Night Pajama Jam on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

In an evening that captivated the imaginations of young and old alike, they showed up fashionably correct in blanket sleepers, flannel pajamas and even cheetah spots. They were ready to explore adventures that waited in the school’s collection of children's books.

The jam was part of a $275,000-preschool-expansion grant the school district received to extend its full-day pre-kindergarten program to 3-year-olds.

"We wanted to raise awareness of reading and bring parents and students together," Superintendent of Schools Lynda Anderson-Towns said.

Parents were given tips to help their children better understand a story by teacher Celine Kable.

Kable read one of her favorite books to jam goers, "A Plump and Perky Turkey," a story of Pete the Turkey and his adventure in Squawk Valley.
