COURT HOUSE — On Oct. 2, demolition was completed on the Auxiliary’s Et Cetera Shop on the Medical Center’s North Main Street campus, clearing the property for a new, more spacious and modern store.

The Auxiliary’s Et Cetera Shop has grown tremendously over the years.

In September 1962, the original Et Cetera Shop was located at 9 Mechanic St.

The property was purchased by the Auxiliary, and through the generosity of local businessmen, the interior of the building was greatly enhanced. The Thrift Shop sold items to raise money to run the hospital and much more.

In 1974, the shop moved across the street from the old Grant’s (Court House Village) Shopping Center (now TJ Maxx/Home Goods) on the Medical Center campus where it continued to be one of the organization’s biggest fundraising ventures.

In 1987, under the leadership of then Auxiliary President, Peggy Borkland, the Et Cetera Shop was renovated and enlarged to the shop has been used by shoppers for 20 years.

The tradition of this shop has been a mainstay in the Court House community for over 45 years.

The Auxiliary has announced that the new Et Cetera Shop is being constructed on the same site and is slated to re-open in January 2009.

The Cape Regional Medical Center Auxiliary will be sure to notify their loyal customers when the grand opening ceremony will be held and when donations to the store will resume, according to a release.
