To The Editor: It is only few weeks until we vote for president of the United States. I believe this is the most histori-cal and important election in our lifetime. Our nation is in shambles, our wallets are empty and the future is uncertain. Do you truly believe that one person can fix all that is wrong? Trust me Vir-ginia, there may be a Santa Claus but Superman is only a comic book character. No matter who sits in the Oval Office, if Congress does not agree, nothing will be done again. In addition, it is we, the masses who it hurts. My parents believed that casting a vote should be secret. I assume that’s why there are curtains in front of the voting booth. I do not believe that. I am going to shout out loud whom I am voting for and I will tell you why. I listened to the debates and the media, and it is all rhetorical. I like and dislike something from each candidate’s position but, for me, it boils down to loyalty. I remember when John McCain came home from the POW camp in Vietnam. I saw him on the six-o’clock news. John McCain served his country well. Nearly gave his life for it. If Vietnam was wrong or right, it does not matter, he was there. He served, he endured torture, and he did that for all of us. John McCain represented all Americans during that time of his life. I believe I owe him something for his sacrifice. Yes, for me, it boils down to loyalty. I am a registered Democrat, and I am voting for the McCain/Palin ticket. PAT SOLDO Villas

If you believe that being a POW and serving our country didn't prepare McCain for the presidency, I would wonder what you think prepared Obama for it? The fact that he never seems to finish what he starts, or that he hangs around with terrorist and racial extremists, which shows at the minimum a lack of good judgement, or that on things that really mattered he would only vote 'present' instead of standing for one side or the other? Or maybe it is because he certainly knows how to request earmarks for those with agendas like his...to the tune of about 1 million per day that he was in the senate! I'm counting on you all putting on your big girl/boy panties and making no complaints when you get what you asked for by your vote for Obama...taxes up the wazoo and creative new names for welfare!

Thanks, Pat for reminding us all the value of service to our country. Service that is not in Obama's history. He has allowed this country to serve his, but has returned little of what he received. Agitation as a community organizer alongside radicals does not qualify as service to the country; instead like ACORN his service has served to destroy America even our vote.

As a registered Democrat, I'm surprised that you would support McCain's policy ideas, regardless of his service in Vietnam. For example, McCain's support of trickle-down economics, lower taxes for the wealthy, aggressive military action instead of thoughtful foreign policy, school vouchers instead of improved public schools, privatizing social security, overturning Roe v Wade and much, much more -- you'd accept all this for "loyalty"? How about a little "loyalty" to the principles of the party you're registered to?

Reasons to vote for Obama: Because it is the way coolest thing to do. Because all my friends say so. Because Bruce Springsteen says so. Because the media says so. Because I will be making history voting for the first black president. Because...

Yes, if you want four more years of war, environmental disaster, economic catastrophe and the rest of the world mocking us instead of respecting us, then go ahead and vote for McCain.

What a dumb reason to vote for him.....you owe him nothing. Just because someone goes to war, was a POW does not mean they should be President of the United States. That experience did not prepare him for the presidency. It's people like you that make McCain think he is owed the presidency, but he's not.
