OCEAN CITY — The police department here has received the 2008 Engineering Award for the work that was provided for making Haven Avenue a Bicycle Friendly Roadway.

The Police Department is being recognized for identifying the needs for bicycle safety in the community and for taking the initiative to implement engineering measures that will provide for that safe environment.

In addition, the department was recognized for its overall commitment to traffic safety and for being a model department in the region. This award is issued by the South Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance.

The award will be presented at an Awards Workshop on October 24, 2008. The workshop is being held at Careme’s Gourmet Restaurant at the Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing.
