SOUTH DENNIS- Two women have been airlifted to Cooper University Trauma Center following a single-car crash that left one victim entrapped here on Route 47 Southbound in the area of mile marker 17.1 around 3:15 p.m. on October 7.
A compact Hyundai Accent left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a pole on the front passenger side of the car. The vehicle then traveled back into the roadway, crossing both lanes of traffic, coming to rest partially in the Northbound lane.
The driver, Louise Samuel, 59 of Villas, was treated for unspecified injuries by Belleplain EMS. Her mother, Rose Ianelli, 90 of Villas, had to be extricated from the vehicle by Dennis Township Fire Company.
Both were airlifted via Southstar and Medic-5 to Atlantic City Regional Medical Center.
The Cape May County Fire Police was requested to the scene by State Police to shut the roadway down for their investigation. Both lanes were closed for approximatley one hour, and traffic was diverted to alternate routes.
The accident is under investigation by Troopers Gaetion Canonico of the Woodbine Station. Anyone with information should contact him at 609-861-5698.

This was yet another sad statistic on this road. Even being aware of the nature of this stretch of road, it is possible to have an accident. There are impatient people on this road, as many of you commented. It's also a long, winding and slightly hypnotic stretch of road. The best one can do is make sure you are awake and alert when you're driving. Keep a notebook, pencil and a camera in your car, just in case. Grab a mug of coffee at Wawa before you hit the road. Prayer is always a good idea. Pray before you leave and thank God when you get where you're going safely. If you see someone driving erratically, call the police.

It is a road...Drivers cause accidents not roads...police do not do help anything

For the record, it was the Dennis Volunteer Fire Company who extricated the woman, not "Dennis Township Fire Company." Dennis VFC is one of three independent volunteer companies in Dennis Twp.: Ocean View, Dennis, & Belleplain.

What do you want to change about the road? What? Close it? Make it straighter? Lights on every mile? Cops hiding behind every tree? What? Its a road. Roads do not make people crash! What do you want to happen? It is only a ROAD. "Calm down on the roads as in life"? What? God? What?

Agree Totally!!! Just yesterday, Tuesday afternoon around 4:40pm. A guy in a tan pickup truck driving on 47 almost ran into the back of my family and I. Then witnessed him passing numerous cars at one time on 47 in the no passing section. By the way we caught up to him several times along 47 until he floored on on 55. Where are all the police who are supposed to protect the roadways.

4:44, you and others who comment on Route 47 need to realize that added Police presence won't prevent all of the accidents from happening, especially for situations like this one. Unless you know of the situation in the car, who are you to judge why this accident took place?

How many accidents have to happen on this road before they make changes? Whenever I go up to Philly, I usually see cops on the side of the road. I also get passed by numerous people in a no pass lane. People need to calm the hell down on the road as in life. God did not intend for us to go this crazy! Chill out!!!
