West Wildwood Commission Postpones Meeting

WEST WILDWOOD — On Friday, Oct. 3, the Borough of West Wildwood sent Sunshine Law notice to the Herald that “due to unforeseen circumstances, the Board of Commissioners meeting for West Wildwood has been postponed until further notice,” according to Dorothy A. Tomlin, borough clerk.

Later the same day, Mayor Herbert C. Fredrick sent a notice explaining that the meeting was postponed in the interest of public safety.

The following is the mayor's cancellation notice:
"Due to a threat of a terrorist nature made via the internet against one of our local residents that includes the insinuation of intentional disruption of a public assembly scheduled for this Friday October 3, 2008, and that 'more tires will be slashed,' has prompted me, as Mayor, to consider the postponement of the October Commissioners in the interest of public safety.

I believe the threats in the Wednesday October 1, 2008 letter at 9:41 a.m. are real based on the fact that residents had their car tires slashed, twice, after they spoke at a recent commissioners meeting. They were also verbally threatened with bodily harm by two individuals after that same meeting.

I further believe that the threats may have validity by evidence of the threatening and abusive group of residents and non residents at the recent Special Commissioner’s Meeting on September 22, 2008 that I believe was led by a former elected official and the political opposition.

For the aforementioned reasons, as the Mayor and Director of Public Safety I find it prudent and in the best interest of the safety and welfare of the general public to postpone the regular October Commissioners Meeting of the Borough of West Wildwood.

Further, I am requesting that the West Wildwood Police Department, in consultation with the Cape May County Prosecutors Office, investigate these threats of terrorism. Once the police and the Prosecutor are satisfied that the public safety of the public can be assured I will then re-schedule the time and date to bold the October Commissioners meeting.

Finally, it is formally requested that at all future public meeting that arrangement be made to provide for adequate police protection for the public both inside and outside of the meeting hall."

The meetings of the West Wildwood governing body are scheduled for the first Friday of each month at 7 p.m.

You have it all wrong- Fredricks is the one who is all shook up. Scott Golden is sane one who has the support of the people , The person who commented about Scott must be shacking up with Chuck

Scott Golden is a ***, if he thinks that he is going anywhere politically. Wake up and realize that you are backing a looser. Chris Fox is all shook up, he won't be able to pay the hugh taxes he created now that he knows that he will not be getting the police chiefs job. Come on people wake up, that is what this is all about.

As a tax payer in West Wildwood my only questions are to the Fox's,

1. WHERE'S THE MONEY?
2. WHAT DID YOU SPEND IT ON?
3. WHEN THE STATE AUDITOR'S ARE DONE HOW MUCH WILL BE MISSING?
4. DO YOU GUYS EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH STUCK TO YOUR FINGERS?

We want to know where OUR money went!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like to me like Chuck Frederick has a "brain" and is considerate enough (unlike his predecessors) to make adjustments in the meeting schedules. Chuck did so on the grounds of public safety and concern. He obviously did not want to subject the public to more of the outbursts and disruptions that some of the Fox cronies had planned. These malcontents are only interested in causing havoc and unrest, resorting to petty tactics and behaviors as well as spreading misinformation. For the record, the former mayor was notorious for playing fast and loose with the town meetings and for reasons that suited his whims - NOT for the public's sake.

So sad when a grown adults act like a spoiled child.

I attended the "meeting" last night. How can the old mayor allow his brother to stand up there and make a horses rear of himself. It's clear this man needs professional help and needs to retire. Can't they find a job for him at the county zoo or something?

Whoever is slashing peoples' tires will hopefully be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Verbally disagreeing with someone is fine, but when someone resorts to property damage or physical damage to intimidate another, that is just so wrong.
Is this the example these adults want to make to their children? They are physically adults I assume, if not, mentally.

Sounds like a bunch of *** holes that are very intimidated by an educated person that has integrity. Sorry if those words are to big for the little thugs that like to threaten people and slash tires.

When is someone in authority going to reel the former mayor and his henchmen (and women) in. Something has to be done. I've been to theses meetings and I'm afraid for the people who attend. Tires slashed, threats being made. Why can't the former mayor just sit back and run again in four years? Whats so important to this guy chris fox that he has to threaten people? I've heard the stories of financial coruption with the former commissioners. I guess the new mayor must be on to something hot? Whats the books say?

You're kidding me right? Mayor AND director of public safety, but you can't make sure tires are not slashed at the meeting? Why do you have a police force?Terrorists?... Yea they're targeting West Wildwood.Keep it coming, this is great...

It is really sad that some people resort to threats and violence just because they lost the election. Instead of wasting everyones time, try putting all that energy into something useful. If the previous administration had been so great, why did it get voted out? Because it wasn't doing the job the people of West Wildwood thought it should be doing. Move on. Let the "new" administration get on with governing and if life still "stinks", then this can all be changed in the next election.

Fri, 10/03/2008 - 2:49pm

Sounds like to me both sides need to get their house in order.

Fri, 10/03/2008 - 1:42pm

Sounds to me like Chuck is afraid to face the public. Hiding from something, maybe?
