ERMA- On September 30th, the Lower Township Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had driven into a fresh water pond off of Cresse Lane in Erma at approximately 9 p.m.

Upon arrival, Officer Michael Kennedy ascertained that the two occupants had escaped from the vehicle and were standing on the shore.

The driver and passenger advised police that four of their dogs were still trapped in the vehicle.

Officer Kennedy then entered the water and smashed out a side window and entered the vehicle to extricate the animals from inside the cab and cap area of the vehicle.

Three of the dogs were retrieved safely and one dog had drowned prior to Kennedy reaching the animal.

After the rescue and upon further investigation the driver of the vehicle, identified as John Kahora, 47 years of age of Westfield Avenue in Erma, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

The case was investigated by Officer Jennifer Anzelone, Officer Doug Whitten and Special Officer Michael Kennedy.

$11/hour and for this, look at the committment and loyalty you get! This Twp should be ashamed of themselves asking these Officers to respond to such calls with little or no chance for them to advance . Obviously they are loyal to their community but they should go elsewhere for a position where they will be valued... I hear the State Park Police is recruiting good, loyal officers.
Thank You Officer Kennedy...many of us apprciate you!

Just think....... after November, and January 1st, we can all call Mike Beck and the Lower Township Taxpayers Association to come handle those types of calls. Under Beck and Layre, their plan is to cut between 8 and 10 cops through attrition, "not rehiring for any officers retiring." And between 8 and 10 of them will be retiring in the next three years. Officer Kennedy is a Class Two Officer who gets paid eleven dollars an hour and he risked his life to go into a sinking truck to rescue dogs. Three things are wrong here;
1) Last week Officer Iames, another Class two Officer went into the Bay to lock up a wanted Felon. These class two officers are getting paid too little to do what Lower Township excepts of them. In Cape May, Class Two Officers only write parking tickets....day-in, day-out!
2) Losing Between 8 and 10 cops to attrition is going to allow an element into this town that will take decades to get out!! It's like a pressure cooker. Turn up the heat and the top blows off!!
3) Allowing Beck and Layre to get into office is like letting the wolves back in. Mike Beck does not care about the Lower Township People. He has an agenda because he is jealous of The Lower Township Police department. Beck and Starner are CLEARLY the reason our taxes are so high today. They failed to put away for a rainy day years ago when in office and choose not to pay into the New Jersey Pension fund when they were warned the bill would come in soon. Now it has come in, and our present council is doing what it can to pay off the bill. Now Beck wants to ride back into town on his White Stallion and slay the wrongdoers!!

MIKE BECK WAS THE ORIGINAL WRONGDOER AND LAYRE'S RECORD IS ALMOST AS BAD AS IT HIS, WITH WHAT HE DID TO WEST CAPE MAY. THOSE PEOPLE SOUTH OF US ARE GLAD WE HAVE HIM NOW!!
