Signs, Signs, Everywhere We Look Are Signs, Signs

o The Editor: Has anyone noticed that this township has become just what supporters of the sign ordinance wanted to avoid? Our township looks like Tilton Road. It is very unsightly to see the sign pollution that now exists, and it is getting worse. Where is the enforcement of the sign ordinance? Contractors are placing signs at locations where work is not being performed; there are signs saying “Will Drive Your Car To Florida for $5” signs; pizzas by the dozens, sandwich boards with the daily lunch specials and auto dealers with flags and banners draped from their buildings. The mayor is allowing this lack of enforcement by letting island organizations place signs up and down the Avalon and Stone Harbor boulevards. We’re not talking about one or two signs; there are 15-20 along these routes. As I understand the ordinance, the only flags allowed to be flown are “open” flags and the American flag and special event banners with permits. It looks very tacky and it is distracting from the beauty of our township. It’s time to treat everyone the same right across the board and stop making exceptions for certain people and groups. What good is an ordinance if it is not enforced? It’s time to enforce the sign ordinance and clean up our unsightly highways. RICHARD RIXEY Court House

I own a sign company, and I'm even disgusted at the amount of signage that litters our highways. And another thing that pisses me off is this, the majority of the candidates for all of the political offices in Cape May County use out of County sign companies. Nothing like getting screwed two ways huh?

If Beck/Lare signs are upsetting some people, consider the fact that all the people who are proudly displaying the Beck/Lare signs are doing so because they support these candidates for Mayor/Council at Large of Lower Township. There are so many of them because Beck/Lare are for the people and are supported by the majority of Lower Township. There are so many signs because they are going to win the campaign. It really is that simple.

Mike Beck and Kevin Lare can't keep a simple pledge as promised on their website not to litter the landscape with thier campaign signs! They are the only ones around as of Sept. 30, except the lone Roach sign that the President of the Lower Township Taxpayer Association saw fit to publish the address of the location of the Roach sign. Perhaps she asked her neighbor for permission? Beck/Lare Website:
"We will not buy or use political signs of any nature."
