To The Editor: It is only the last sentence of Jack Fichter’s opinion “…may be the most important election in the history of America” that makes any sense. First, the recitation of terms and names that “characterize” the last eight years (water boarding, foreclosures, bank failures, Hurricane Katrina, gas prices, Gitmo, warrantless wiretaps, secret prisons, corporate tax cuts, etc.) are criticisms from an ultra-liberal socialist that reflect an underlying philosophy which is the wrong recipe for this country to follow. Before anyone ponders about “Gitmo,” and “waterboarding,” consider the events prior therto: In a sneak attack on the continental United States, a foreign enemy dropped two bombs on the heart of the financial district of the country, New York, one on the military brain center, the Pentagon, and one intended for our symbol of government, the White House, which would have been completed but for the bravery of some ordinary citizens who weren’t quite interested in asking the perpetrators, “can’t we all just get along.” The bombs were four airplanes laden full with aviation fuel for explosives, and human eyeballs for guidance systems. They were not poor, desperate and deprived individuals, but university-educated, intelligent, cunning, skilled and willing. Clearer examples of pure evil you will never see. More important, there are more of them still around. So when I hear that the associates of the 9/11 cretins are in secret prisons, I do not think it is torture. No one is having their hands chopped off, tongues carved out, fingernails yanked, or arms bound to their sides and thrown blind-folded off a roof to hit a concrete sidewalk 40 feet below. The whole point about waterboarding is that it works. The brains behind 9/11 sang like a nightingale when he was dunked. The world has a tarnished view of our government: Remember the word ingrate? I do not give a hoot what the rest of the world thinks of our government, especially those sophisticates across the big water to the east. They have enjoyed peace and tranquility for the last 70 years, courtesy of the American military presence in Europe. Bush was not actually elected in 2000 and 2004 because of election improprieties? Didn’t a cadre of newspapers, the New York Times, Washington Post and others, commission a post-Supreme Court decision recount of the ballots cast in Florida in 2000 which showed that Bush actually won” Enough said. As for the reference to corporate tax cuts: It is an undeniable fact that cutting taxes increases tax revenue. It happened in West Germany in the early 60s; it happened when President Kennedy followed the West German model in 1962, it happened under President Regan, and under President Bush. Barack Obama will not cut taxes; he will increase them by raising rates on ordinary income and capital gains. He will take this country on a forced march down the path to socialism. And finally, will America elect a black man as president? No, according to Fichter because we are a racist nation. Well, I will not vote for Obama, but it will not be because he is a black, but because he is a Marxist/Socialist who has hung out for a long time with people who want to blow up America, and religious people, who from the pulpit, call upon God to damn America.
