RIO GRANDE- Rio Grande Rescue, Rio Grande Fire Company and New Jersey State Police were on scene of a one-vehicle accident involving a fire at approximately 7:25 p.m. on September 4.
The car lost control and left the Northbound off-ramp at Exit 4 on the Garden State Parkway, about half of the distance from the entrance of the off-ramp and the toll near Route 47.
The vehicle caught fire when it came to a stop after snapping several trees, and was fully engulfed moments later. Smoke was reportedly visible from the western side of the Wildwood island.
After quickly extinguishing the blaze inside the vehicle, Rio Grande Fire focused on hosing down a nearby tree that had also ignited. The vehicle required extrication from thick brush as well.
A State Trooper told the Herald that there was an unknown amount of injuries at that time. The injured were transported by ground to Cape Regional Medical Center.
The off-ramp was closed for about an hour.
No further information was available.

Alas! Again, in Cape May County. Speeding to get to the Shore. Careless driving. Thank God that there was no loss of life....this time.
