COURT HOUSE -- Two persons were airlifted following a three-vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway at the Stone Harbor Boulevard intersection about 7:35 p.m. on Aug. 27, according to State Police Sgt. Burns.
Court House Fire Department, Middle Township Ambulance Corps, Lower Township Rescue Squad, and Medic 9 all responded to the accident that left a traffic light resting on one of the vehicles involved.
State Police did not release all details shortly after the accident, but confirmed South Star and Medevac 5 were requested to the scene as a precaution, "We don't believe the injuries to be serious at this time; one victim may have a concussion that’s all we know for now," said Burns.
Both victims were flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center Trauma Center in Atlantic City, according to Burns.
The accident is under investigation by State Police Bass River Patrol Division.

Whats the rat?? If they call in a helicopter the Ambulance and Medics don't get paid. Only the transporting service call bill. So in the best intrest of the victim they called in a bird and lost payment. Maybe someone was faking injury so they could get a nice payday

Someone needs to look into why there are so many airlifts to Atlantic City.
Someone we know was airlifted to AC after a minor car accident in Wildwood
about a month ago.
The bill for the Helicopter ride is $20,00. Sher was released the next day
with a few stitches on her head. I smell a rat...does anyone else?

The major problem at this light is the fact that people turning left in the left hand turn lanes do not stop once the light has turned red for their lane, they just keep on going. The State Police could write a ticket every time these lights turn red as people continue against the red lights while north and south bound traffic is barreling at you at at least 50 mph. The bottom lane is until the politicians get us an overpass at this intersection, the State Police need to make a greater impact here by writing summons's to every person who does not stop.

As a longtime local who was born at Burdette I resent people constantly bashing the place. I have had to take my parents there numerous times and the ER and the hospital have been outstanding. Cape May County is very fortunate to have a Hospital in the area! I bet everyone would appreciate the place more if it where gone! Thanks to all the hardworking people at Cape Reigonal and keep up the great work !!

Just in this last week alone I have been cut off by people on stone harbor blvd trying to make a right on red onto the parkway when traffic is heavy and I have the right of way. That right on red needs to be a "NO TURN ON RED"! These accidents are evident that someone is going to get hurt! Tourist or not, pay attention to cars is universal, so you can't even use the expression of being from out of town!

Just like a previous spokesperson, I too saw a minor accident on the southbound yield lane as I passed on my way to the Acme - and then the major accident as I returned home. I pass the intersection every day- twice a day- for the past 26 years and can not count the number of times I have been cut off and almost hit or pushed into another car by cars entering the parkway because they wanted to get out onto the parkway instead of waiting for my car to safely pass first. I have seen cars run red lights; make turns from non turn lanes; go the wrong way into oncoming traffic; try to beat the light and then stall out in oncoming traffic lanes; turn across the medians;speed through the intersection above 65mph; and do 360's on ice because they were going too fast. The intersection is bad because it is on a high speed road but it is dangerous because the drivers don't care-don't think- and don't drive carefully.

Middle, Lower, CRMC. It doesn't matter who was on scene. The importatnt thing is that someone was there. I did EMS for years and it is nice to get recognized once in a while, but don't ask for it. If you're in it for the glory you missed the point. Go to Hollywood and play one on TV if that's what's important to you.

we were headed south to wildwood about 6 p.m. and saw a very minor accident at the same spot that night; on our way home, we saw this big accident scene. we were waiting to go north on the gsp at this light while the emergency, tow and repair vehicles were trying to clean it up...we couldn't believe out eyes when we saw that all the red lights flashing still did not stop a ford explorer from blowing through to make a left toward stone harbor after the arrow had turned to red, almost causing another accident...people are ***

First of all, the accident occurred way before 7:35pm as I was sitting in the traffic at 6:50pm from this accident. And three cars may have been hit....however, there were at least five cars damaged as they sat on the side of the parkway at the accident scene going southbound.
Wouldn't you want to be airlifted to Atlanticare? Cape Regional hides behind the U of P name only. Things haven't changed there and it only gets worse in summer as their ER is never fully capable of helping the normal population in winter let alone all the summer injuries.
Also I saw the hard work of all the EMS folks at the intersection and they were doing a super job. We are fortunate to have a fine set of fire, police and ems in our area.
(ED. NOTE: There were several accidents that evening. We stand by the reported time of this accident.)

Since when do we fly people for concussions? Last time i checked my patient was in pretty bad shape. Maybe people shouldnt listen to the state troopers when it comes to the medical stuff. State troopers should just stick to directing traffic seeing i almost got hit by a dozen cars last night.

Cape regional is not a trauma center. If the pt's just had concussions, cape would have been fine. But for the medics to decide to fly them to atlanticare mean the pt's had some pretty good injuries and met the fly criteria set forth by the state.

I saw this last night, glass and debri was everywhere at the intersection..crazy..hope everybody is okay
Thu, 08/28/2008 - 7:49am
I believe that they were flown to ARMC as Trauma Patients.... Please understand that any head injury no matter how minor could be a catastrophe. All head injuries should be treated as trauma. A minor bump could turn out to be life threatening

Here we go again. Doesnt the state of new jersey realize its time to do something about this intersection. Born and raised in cape may county, This intersection has always been a problem. Maybe if NJ government would stop putting money in there own pockets and do something to get the state out of this mess there in, things that need to get done would get done.
As far as not going to CRCM, Come on now.....Dont you remember the former name...Burdeath......

Again, "the signals are inadequate" This state will not support strobe lights in the red light lenses. Leave this state and you see them everywhere. Why there and not here? The Turnpike Authority promised upgrades to warn drivers of "signals ahead". We continue to accept that nothing can be done at these "super highway" intersections until the interchanges are built. A little money spent until that happens, if ever, could mean the difference between your future and not having one. Look at the crosses by the side of that intersection. Enough said!

You did not mention that Cape Regional Ambulance was on the scene. As a matter of fact I saw them as the 2nd to arrive behind Lower. Also before police and middle township ambulance. I just wanted everyone to get the credit they deserve. EMS is a very important resource to our community. Thank you to all who give their time !!!
Thu, 08/28/2008 - 12:25am
Cape Regional is not a trauma faciltiy!
Thu, 08/28/2008 - 12:16am
There was also an accident at this intersection not more than an hour before this too.
Maybe the person with the concussion was one of the ones who was not airlifted.

You put traffic signals on a major freeway ... this is what happens! Get rid of these traffic lights before more people are hurt and killed!

Just an fyi that state trooper does not know what he is talking about. You don't get flown out because you might have a concussion. You get flown out because you have a tramatic injury from a serious mechanism of injury, such as loss of consciousness, deformities of an extremity, bleeding, possible closed head injury etc. If you saw 2 of the cars involved in the mva you would know that each of the drivers hit the windshields and had head injuries. I think the herald is awesome at arriving at the scenes of such accidents and other newsworthy events and report on them promptly.

Why were the victims flown to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center when they were so close to the Cape Regional Medical Center? Isn't CRMC adequate?
