WOODBINE -- The Greater Woodbine Chamber of Commerce and Horn’s Temple Lighthouse Deliverance Ministries hosted its first “Family Fun Day” on Aug. 24, at Lincoln Park, to celebrate the ending of the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibition Key Ingredients: America by Food which traveled to 150 rural communities across the U.S .including Woodbine through 2008.

Area residences enjoyed a large buffet of classic barbeque favorites and live Christian music with performances from Abundant Life Assembly of God, Eureka Baptist, Light House Deliverance Ministries and the Robin Brunette Family.

The Woodbine Recreation Committee organized traditional summer activities for children including potato sack racing.

The Puerto Rican Action Committee unveiled its new Impaired Driving Program which uses the “Drunk Busters Impairment” goggles and a golf cart to demonstrate the dangers of driving drunk along an obstacle coarse.

The barbecue was made possible largely by financial support from Chamber of Commerce members Carol and "Smoky" Saduk and Dionysus Restaurant.

Chamber of Commerce President Julia Hankerson said she was very happy with the large turnout and hopes to continue the family fun day annually.

The Key Ingredients exhibit featured at the Woodbine Public Library and Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage will continue to be on display through Aug. 31.
