CAPE MAY — A bicyclist from Lower Township was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Aug. 11 after a collision with a vehicle at 5:23 p.m.

According to Police Chief Diane M. Sorantino, police and Cape May fire-rescue responded to the intersection of Philadelphia and Idaho avenues.

Witness reports indicated that the bicyclist, John C. Shelton 4th, 18, of Lower Township, reportedly failed to stop for a stop sign on Philadelphia avenue at Idaho as he was southbound on Philadelphia.

The investigation revealed that a Toyota van was westbound on Idaho Avenue and was struck on the passenger side by Shelton.

Sgt. Thomas Connelly, who headed the accident investigation, reported that the bicycle was not equipped with a brake or properly functioning brake system.

Why are some of the commenters so nasty when it comes to the herald reporters? The reporters are the ones who are telling us the news online so we dont have to wait to read it in the paper!

And last I remembered NO ONE WAS PERFECT.
