RIO GRANDE — On July 24, at approximately 3:49 a.m. Middle Township Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident, when a vehicle struck a utility pole on Route 47 near Secluded Lane.

When officers arrived they found a one-vehicle accident with damage to a utility pole and wires down.
Rio Grande Fire Department and Rio Grande Rescue responded to the scene as well as the Atlantic City Electric Company.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Steven Nagle, 23, of Villas was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigation revealed that Nagle was traveling west on Route 47 when he lost control of his vehicle and it veered off the roadway and struck the pole.

Police charged Nagle with driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle offenses.

The accident knocked out power to residents in Rio Grande and Green Creek for several hours.

The roadway between Bayshore Road in Green Creek and Railroad Avenue in Rio Grande had to be closed so utility crews could remove the wires, and replace the pole.

Traffic was back to normal by 12:30 p.m. Patrol Officer Michelle Greenwaldt is investigating the accident.

I live on Mimosa also... The lack of A/C is what woke me up... I agree with the generator idea. Was your baby okay that time??? It's hard enough when storms knock out the power, but DWI drivers are the worst!!
PS. Will we ever get a left turning lane into our street?? I"m scared that one of these times I'm going to get rear ended. Even the police go around at 50mph or faster....

He probably WAS home. DWI is a motor vehicle offense, as were the other charges. If he had someone to take responsibility for him (and sign for him) he HAS to be released after being processed. If there isn't a responsible person to turn him over to, he can be held at the police dept. lock-up until he's sober, then he has to be released. He can only be required to post bail if other charges are filed (assault, death by auto, etc.). Sucks, but its out of the control of the police.

It's unreal how many times a year someone hits the utility poles on 47 near Secluded Lane. In the 4 years I've lived on Mimosa this is well over the 5th or 6th time it has happened. The one time it happened in summer recently we weren't even able to get out of the sub. I had a newborn, not even 4 weeks old. It was muggy and over 80 at 3am. I had no AC obviously. It was pretty tough to keep her cool. It already happened once this year....almost 12 hours later the power came back.....

I told my husband we would have had a small generator pay for itself by now.
