Taxpayers, Now's the Time to Stop the Bonding

To The Editor: The mayor and Commissioner William Davenport advised us in June 2007 that the master plan revision would only cost the taxpayers $42,000. Now they are trying to convince us that Remington- Vernick is owed another $200,000 for that revision. According to the clerk, they were never billed for the $200,000 extra and didn’t know anything about it until May 2008. This sounds like bait and switch. If anyone needs to pay this $200,000 extra, which is supposedly due to Remington-Vernick, it’s Mayor Troiano and Commissioner Davenport or the investors who have been working so hard to get the Starlight high-rise approval, which couldn’t have been done without this revised master plan. Remington-Vernick charged North Wildwood approximately $240,000 for their master plan within the same year. The only people who should not be liable for this, which seems to be out-and-out deception, are the taxpayers. The taxpayers surely would have not approved a $242,000 revision to the master plan, if they were told the true cost. Taxpayers, now is the time to stop the bonding; we only have 20 days after it is passed by the commissioners to sign petitions. Please sign when asked. KATHLEEN MCCULLOUGH Wildwood .
